Mumbai attacks: Terrorists took cocaine to stay awake during assault

Officials said drug paraphernalia, including syringes, was recovered from the scene of the attacks.

The heavily built men, who had undergone training at a special marine camp established by the Lashkar-e-Taibat (LeT) terrorist group in Pakistan, had also used steroids to build a tougher physique.

"We found injections containing traces of cocaine and LSD left behind by the terrorists and later found drugs in their blood," said one official.

"There was also evidence of steroids, which isn't uncommon in terrorists.

"These men were all toned, suggesting they had been doing some heavy training for the attacks. This explains why they managed to battle the commandos for over 50 hours with no food or sleep."

One terrorist used the drugs to keep on fighting despite suffering a life-threatening injury.

The Taliban is pretty tough about drug use for their own troops. However, they believe that providing/selling drugs to “unbelievers” and “infidels” is allowed if it promotes jihad.

Sending out drugged killers is an old Muslim tradition. The radical Muslim sect called the Assassins, who gave us the word for what they did, were high on drugs when their leaders sent them out to kill people.

The name derives from their drug of choice, hashish.

Your post is right on the money. I experienced the same thing. At first the sensations and perceptions brought on by LSD are so overwhelming and out of proportion you feel consumed and driven by the drug. With experience you realize that you can control your emotions and perceptions and the heightened awareness can be used. If they were trained to look at LSD that way from the outset, instead of stumbling on that by accident through dozens or hundreds of trips, they could cut through their fear and maintain their focus on the mission. Cocaine would enhance that by stimulating them physically and promoting the sense of well-being. That eliminates the fatigue factor which can steer your emotional state downward causing a “bad trip.”
