Just announced on update on local Miami news: Mel Martinez will NOT run for a second term in 2010!
Now maybe we can get a CONSERVATIVE Republican.
I agree. I don’t think Jeb wants it. If Putnam gets it, he would probably be the youngest senator.
McCain got more votes than Bush did.
He will vote for amnesty before he leaves.
Thanks for giving me a laugh about Katherine Harris. You guys are hysterical. . .lol

I think this may just be a very good thing!
George Prescott Bush was on with Geraldo the other night. He’s living in Dallas now. Geraldo said “you certainly don’t look like Prescott”.
Yeah, except Crist is no Republican. Well, no conservative at least. I except the establishment to hand pick another unacceptable RINO to fill the seat. The only question is whether Republican primary voters will do what the party wants this time, or pick a real conservative.
Last time around there was a conservative in the race but Bush interfered and hand piked Mel because he was Hispanic and would vote his way on amnesty. People saying pro-enforcement can’t win need to remember though that Mel did not run pro-amnesty. People who folow politics closely knew, but most don’t. They believed the guy was pro-enforcement when they cast their votes because that’s what his ads and campaign site put out.
It’s best he leave for many reasons, not just position on amnesty. In 2004 when Bush won Florida easily and Jeb was very popular mel almost lost the seat to a Clinton appointee involved in the Elian mess. He wasn’t going to win re-election especially with the way he’s governed since.
I had lunch with Mel Martinez and I thought he was one of the most intelligent, articulate, and decent person out of many senators. Thune in particular was a dissapointment. Thune looks great but is less filling than Martinez.
Thank You GOD!!!
There are very few conservative latinos in Florida. The only ones that used to be reliably so were the Cuban's thanks very much to the JFK "flinch" during the Bay of Pigs catastrophe. The rest of the latinos in this area come from Nanny State banana republics and they're looking for the same on a much bigger scale. Still, most of them are still reliably pro-gun having been gun oppressed in their homelands. Back in the late 1970s when I was a kid I worked for awhile in a large Miami gunshop. Cubans and Nicaraguan's were the biggest purchasers of AR15s on the planet. Most of those purchasers weren't dopers either. The druggies tended to like the big flashy revolvers. These were mom and pop type folks who just appreciated the 2nd Amendment. I think that even the latino democrats will revolt against "O" if he tries a ban and even a Katrina style confiscation.
I’ve got no love for Martinez, but we desperately need a Republican to keep this seat. It will be a lot harder to win an open seat.
Any word on whether or not Jeb Bush would be interested? He would be great!
What high profile Republicans? Other than Jeb Bush (who probably isn’t interested), who would be a good candidate to win the Florida seat?
If Jeb runs (I’m skeptical), he’ll win. He is loved in Florida, and remains very popular among South Florida Cubans as well.
86.67 Lifetime but just 80 in 2007. Martinez gets a D on immigration.
As long as nobody mentions Kathleen Harris....
That’s good and bad. Good because it means his replacement will be an incumbent. Bad because it means I think that Crist gets to give somebody a leg up, so it’s likely NOT going to be the conservative we want.
