OLYMPIA, Wash. -- An atheist group has unveiled an anti-religion placard in the state Capitol, joining a Christian Nativity scene and "holiday tree" on display during December.

The atheists' sign was installed Monday by Washington members of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a national group based in Madison, Wis.

With a nod to the winter solstice - the year's shortest day, occurring in late December - the placard reads, in part, "There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

Atheists are scum! And I say that as an atheist.

I will be very impressed if they do this at the local Mosque during Ramadan, but we all know they will do no such thing. Christians will give you a stern look, and a disapproving glare. Muslims? Not so nice.

Well, Once you open-up the public square to on legitimate faith, you will have to permit space on that square for every other faith or non-faith or view.

Nasssty little atheist yellow jackets. They are miserable and hopeless and want to force their dark miserable world on everyone else. If I lived there I would love to paint over their wretched sign at night. And then when they put a new one, paint it over again. THere is no right in the Constitution that says nasssty atheists get to post in your face nasssty atheist messages on public property.

Aggressive and hateful secularism is just as much a danger as Islamic jihad; actually, more so.

“Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds”

Excuse me but it is NOT an equal resonse to a nativity scene. It is an editorial that seeks to establish ATHEISM as the State Religion. It is intolerant of all other faiths.

If a cross were to be placed that said “All of you non-Christians are going to Hell” then they might have a case. That is not the message at all. The nativity brings no message against any other faith. Even a total faith in the no god god.

I guess this proves even more that atheism itself is a religion.

I just put up my Festivus Pole. Of course, I already did the “airing of grievances” at Thanksgiving.

And why do you think that is? The stern look from Christians I mean. Because Christians aren’t Muslims. That said however I’m NOT one of those Chrsitians who’ll give a stern look. Mine would be a more “hand of God’’

the placard reads, in part, "There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

The Freedom From Religion Foundation sounds really dogmatic.

Atheists don't believe in "establishment claus(e)". The same government that cannot establish a State religion, cannot OPPOSE religion EITHER. Damned bigots.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

Atheist Supremacists (including those in the ACLU) need to STFU about Christmas already.

LOL! Hey, that’s OK, as long as we get our Creche! I’m guessing many will see the sign and just snicker at it.

Good. Christians should be more assertive in my opinion as militant Islam and militant Atheism isn’t going to give you a second chance. They are dangerous and need to be stopped.
