The New York Times, the New York Daily News, Newsday, U.S.A Today, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News and a host of other news organizations recently reported that gun sales across the country increased 10 percent after Barack Obama defeated John McCain. Many of the gun shop owners that were interviewed on camera stated they had never seen sales increase to this level in 15 to 20 years.

Those purchasing guns said they were doing so because of a growing fear that the spiraling economy will force desperate people to commit criminal acts. Others bought them because they believe an Obama Administration would move quickly to ban certain guns or attempt to limit their sales in United States. These are legitimate explanations that warrant serious investigation, but I believe there is one more valid explanation for the phenomenal surge that no one is bothering to discuss: the planned assassination of President Barack Obama.

Strangely, what the news agencies failed to report was that although many purchases involved commonly used handguns, the weapons that were being snatched off the shelves in record numbers were high-powered assault rifles, most notably the AR 15! On "The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric", one of the buyers looked right into the camera and said, "A man's got to protect his home and his property." Okay, here's my question. Who does this fool expect to break into his house? Bigfoot? I'm sorry, but that milk smells spoiled and I'm not buying it! Am I the only one that thinks there is something very, very wrong here?

In my honest opinion, anyone that purchases a high-powered, military-linked assault rifle has an agenda. Period!

Hi Gary, that was a very thoughtful article regarding the upsurge of gun purchases across this great country.

However, it is a silly premise to assume that hundreds of thousands of gun owners purchase an AR15 with the intention of killing Obama. First of all, if your premise is even half true Obama would already be dead. I'm sorry but the odds just don't support your theory.

The truth is that the lawful purchase of guns is has occured for two reasons. (1) Gun owners expect that the silly Clinton gun bans in the 1990's will be reinstated (I hope they are incorrect), and (2) Obama has proposed a laundry list of socialist proposals, have you payed attention to the history of communism/socialism... 150 million innocent people dead between 1900 and 2000 alone at the hands of the government. There is nothing wrong with an honest, lawful citizen owning the most powerful of firearms. Without this right, we are merely slaves, subject to any atrocity that our government might request. At least with massive civilian gun ownership, the most atrocious of these is usually off the table.

Keep up the writing, you have great style, but a better understanding of the 2nd amendment will help you provide more accurate information to your readers.

I laid in bed this morning, not really wanting to get out in the cold. While I was there I tried to visualize a scenario in which Obama might be killed.

I came to the conclusion that a single shooter would have absol;utely no chance of getting the job done. There are just too many SS agents around him and they do a very good job of checking out the venues where he has to appear.

No, the only way it could happen is for a rogue military group to make a proper assault on him while he is away from the White House. Even then, they would suffer considerable casualties and the end result might not be to their liking. There are redundant forces around whenever the prez is making an appearance and they’re all there to protect him. Unless they can be overcome or subverted there’s no chance.

So all those “high power assault rifles” are just going to have to spend their lives gathering dust.

It would be so easy for these crazy bastards to get their hands on the AR 15, especially when you consider how lax the background checks and gun laws are from state to state. All you have to do is walk into a shop, tell the owner what you want, slap down the cash and walk off with a gun. No questions asked. The state of Ohio is a perfect example, and there are many, many others. Therefore, you can bet gun store owners are not “carding” white supremacists or members of ‘The Insurgents”.

Even if there is an agenda, generally such firearms would not imply a secret pick-off of a powerful head of state. Only Moslem fanatics bother with explosive and obvious attacks, as a rule.

Representative of the majority of voters for BHO - why get confused with the facts, such as the Constitution or second amendment? After all, our founding fathers were “just a bunch of old white guys”. Or maybe a lot of these gun buyers have read or heard BHO’s publicly stated intention to establish, heavily fund and arm a new “Civilian Security Force”. Maybe a lot of these gun buyers know enough about history that one of the very first steps to taking over a nation and its people is to DISARM the citizenry. God save our country.
