That’s my congressman, one of the last Conservative ones left.

Excellent idea! I love Judge Gomert! Let those that earn the money keep it...although, I doubt politicians in Washington will go for that, since it prevents them from doling it out to their cronies buying favors and votes for themselves

I suggested that McCain propose a total federal tax holiday (instead of just a gas tax holiday) for 6 months or a year as part of his campaign. It might have resulted in his election.

I have no doubt this proposal would go a long way toward fixing America’s and the world’s economy if implemented.

Even with no income tax the federal govt would still probably make the same revenue due to excise and indirect taxes, of which would grow huge because of much increased economic activity. Throw in some tariffs on chaep walmart crap and you have a winner.

Good idea.

Cannot be implemented. Maybe with 1 or 2 years advance notice. In the case of some older systems (like the US Government), even that won’t be enough.

A great idea but dangerous!

The people might develop a habit they'd want to continue.

It sounds like a great idea. There is one question: how will the government make up the lost revenue?

Left end of the Laffer curve. The government doesn’t collect anything at 0% and at 100% tax rates. The problem is where to place the tax in between.

I like the “starving the beast” comment, but it doesn’t work that way. I think Reagan was hoping to starve the beast with his cuts, but spending never stopped and huge deficits began.

I wrote a similar proposal and posted it here:

The Freeper Economic Recovery Act of 2009.

SNIP

The bill would declare a one year federal tax holiday for adjusted net income below $150,000. Taxable income above that threshold would be taxed at the current marginal rates. Witholding would be suspended for the year for affected income levels effective January 1, 2009.

The collection of payroll taxes paid by employees would be suspended for one year with employers still contributing the required share and the employee receiving full credit. The Earned Income Tax Credit would be suspended for the year as it would be redundant.

SNIP

I think this would have a better chance of passing than what Rep. Gohmert is proposing.

Louie voted against the bailout, and he was one of those who stayed in August during the recess to promote drilling.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, proposed that the U.S. government stimulate the country's economy by collecting no federal income tax this year.

Now there's an incentive for me to go out and get a job!!!

OUTSTANDING IDEA!!!!

Seriously, what an excellent idea. Do it one time, and let it ride.

It is SO MUCH BETTER than handing this assholes TRILLIONS of dollars we are NEVER going to see again.

I could do A TON with $30,000.
