Virginians Slain in Attacks Lived Out Peaceful Ideals
WASH POST ^ | 11-29-08 | Jerry Markon, Amy Gardner and Theresa Vargas

FABER, Va., Nov. 28 -- Alan Scherr was an art professor with a comfortable life in the Maryland suburbs, but he spent 25 years studying Transcendental Meditation in a quest for something more. The search took him and his family to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, where they shed their old life in Silver Spring and meditated in the complex of a New Age mystic.

Religious and spiritual freedom is among the many blessings we have in our country: while most of us here at Freep tend to be conservative, Christian, patriots, we also know that all Americans may not be such, but are Americans nonetheless. This father and daughter were very close, they seem very happy in the photgraph accompanying this story, and it sounds like they were good people pursuing their spiritual interests. Christians did not assault their "Synchronicity Foundation": neither did Jews, Catholics or even American muslims, and they certainly did not attack them for their religious beliefs. It is both unfortunate and sad that the rest of the world has become a cesspool of violence against people of faith, all kinds of faiths. We should morn that murder of this father and his daughter are yet another example of why Americans should be vigilant against such attacks here and our military needs to take the fight to the murderists wherever they are...

Taking a kid to what has become a breeding ground of terror was both stupid and negligent.

If this guy wanted to take chances with his own life fine but have enough sense to keep the child out of dangerous situations.

Somehow, I suspect that he was against the war, and voted far left.

Peaceful ideals are not much defense against people who want to kill you because you do not share their religious beliefs.

Bingo.

Is there ever a gathering of lefties where I think, I could take everyone in this room? No, there isn't.

Funny, for lefties love to watch the animal show, and never seem to get that they are gazells in a world of predators. Well, actually they do. This is why they make sure they live in lefty liberal enclave's in the burbs and only implement their lefty ideas on the urban poor to, you know, ‘help them’.

Group hug all around.

Which is why history has shown these people to be the first to be slaughtered or sent to death camps.

Liberals have, throughout history, been the ones who supported and welcomed clearly dangerou dictators into positions of power in their nations. Those same liberals must be silenced because they express the most vocal outrage at the actions of those dictators.

Everyone who already understood the coming threat either evacuated from those nations or prepared to defend their lives.

I don’t think very many people thought that Mumbai would come under attack.

Oh really...

From Wik: Mumbai

Mumbai has been the most preferred target for most terrorist organizations, primarily the separatist forces from Kashmir. Over the past few years a series of attacks including explosions in local trains, to the most recent and unprecedented attacks of 26th November, 2008, where two of the prime hotels and another building, in south Mumbai, were seiged.

“As they mourned the deaths, family and friends struggled to comprehend how a man defined by his quiet spirituality had met such a violent end — along with the daughter who was raised in part by monks in the family-like atmosphere of the rural Synchronicity compound, 30 miles from Charlottesville”.

...perhaps being thankful for the freedoms afforded him through his ancestors in America would’ve worked better. Continuing his Marxist indoctrinating of Maryland’s youth and telling his daughter to get a job at the local grocery store may have taught her values and how to be industrious. That would have helped “mankind” far more than sitting around with monks making bread and chanting. He cheated his daughter out of her childhood and left his wife alone to campaign for Obama.

You saved me from thinking up some way to express what I thought of this man's life choices.

You see that a lot around here in the mountains of VA. You can see evidence of this by simply driving through Floyd County on a nice Summer afternoon. Lots of out of place looking people for a small town in the mountains.

There are actual 'hippy' communes, that are populated by people that moved there from up north(I think NJ) during the 60s and 70s, who were searching for a naturally "pure" place to live. AFAIK, they have never been known to bother or trouble anyone.

"'It's an unbelievable tragedy that he should be struck down by terrorists when his whole life was about creating peace,' said Marcia Kaspark, Alan Scherr's ex-wife. 'His whole life was about spirituality.'"

Hmmm...Totally 'spiritual' and yet, left the wife and kids. Interesting...

"...upon meeting the mystic, a former actor known as 'Master Charles'..."

Hmmm...totally gullible as well.

The saddest thing was, he didn't behave recklessly like so many other Eloi. He didn't do a Rachel Corrie, he sorta avoided controversy. He retreated to the overwhelming white and safe Blue Ridge Mountains, he was visiting India, arguably one of the safest exotic tourist destinations, in a country where people may be poor but have a strong sense of right and wrong.

He truly was an Eloi, a loopy, soft, self-indulgent, spoiled twit, but it's too bad about his daughter. I think she was in for some brutal disillusionment down the road, if she had been lucky enough to live that long.

I posted last night that the notion that the state, any government, can now insure the safety of an de armed individual is out of date. Actually, it was a fluke of history, but leave that out. Now individuals should think for themselves. Arms are cheap, last incredibly long time. None of these common attacks would happen with an armed citizenry.

Just yesterday there was another Islamist hijacking of a cargo ship. The tree British guards jumped overboard and were picked up by a helicopter. They were unarmed guards.
Yep.

I propose that the next shake down method will be to pull along side a tanker and detonate a POS fishing boat and after that collect the insurance payments. Paid in full ships will have to broadcast their name and position. If you are not on the list, you’ll get a sea visit from the local, Islamist shakedown mafia.

Better he would have studied the Torah...assuming from his name that he was a Jew.

Not for nothing, but what is there “to study” in trans-wcendental meditation and its offshoots? At the end of the day, it’s nothing but self-worship.

Everyone seeks to fill that empty space in their heart and many don't know God is the true answer..

...this man replaced the Creator with the created.

..... his child (under his influence) was caught up...

He didn't find nirvana...nor bliss...nor paradise.
