It's a madhouse outside the gun shops, too (Barf Alert)
The Newport News Daily Press ^ | November 19, 2008 | Tamara Dietrich

Posted on 11/28/2008 11:54:39 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

A black man gets elected president and half the country dives for the panic room, buying up guns and squirreling away supplies like fatalists awaiting the End of Days.

That's an exaggeration, of course.

Barack Obama is biracial, not black.

And it's not half the country diving, but a goodly portion of us, judging by soaring gun sales post-Election Day that have even hit Hampton Roads.

"Stock up on guns, ammunition, and canned goods," a reader named "Church Slave" suggests in our online Topix system. "And maybe a candy bar or two."

I'm no stranger to the idea of laying in supplies for lean times; I have Mormons in the family.

What is new is the drumbeat of imminent doom running through feedback posts as readers digest the idea of Barack Obama in the White House.

"Hee hee heeeee ..." chortles "HG Robinson" in the very first post to reporter Peter Dujardin's story last week on the local run on weaponry.

"Clearly President Obama is looking to ban handguns and close loopholes in the law first chance he can. ... You gun nuts better stock up now."

First, Obama hasn't said he wants to ban handguns. And second, my own theory is that HG is a so-called gun nut, himself or herself, just priming the pump.

I have similar suspicions about a poster who signs off as "Tyrone" (really? Not Denzel or Tyrell or Sambo?) and taunts that he will "break into your house and rape you" and "Nobody should have guns but us thugs!"

Sure enough, some dupe bites.

"Bring it on Tyrone," growls a "mr white," "and you will be one DEAD African!!!!!"

Intelligent discourse, it's not — it's the pointless baiting and biting you get when a dog chases its own tail.

I found the Shop Notes behind the “Item Search” link. Thank you! We’ll move onto our place (away from the power grid) this summer to start building and will order the books then.

Today, we have a light snow storm with medium wind gusts up to ~ 60 kilometers per hour and are erecting a small portable garage obtained last night after an approximate 260 kilometer drive—much of it over ice. ...breaking for lunch with the wood stove going now. ;-)

Over 9,000 feet? I was thinking about coming to see you but that is above my height limit. I had some terrible palpitations last time I ventured that high, I am not anxious to do that again.

What’s wrong with left-handed people?

Yes. Oxygen therapy prescriptions are a little more common up here for some. I can feel the pressure changes a little while driving back and forth over the Pass every day (over 11,000 feet) to do construction labor. ...narrow road, mostly no shoulders, off-camber in places and covered with ice for the next few months.

It’s a different kind of life here.

This came from a MD State Trooper friend of mine.
FYI,

Heads up to all of you who swore to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic.

Let your state Legislatures know that we do not want this bill passed, and petition them to vote no on this bill. We should keep after them until the bill is closed by bombarding them with e-mails, phone calls, and letters.

Get to all your politicians to get to work and NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!

The 2008 Legislative session has begun, and the Ammunition Accountability Act is being introduced across the country. Below is a list of states where legislation has already been introduced:

Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm

Remember how Obama said that he wasn’t going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including handloaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

Please give this the widest distribution possible and contact your Reps!

I needed oxygen therapy a couple of summers ago in New Mexico but I did not know it existed . I have lived my entire life about 50 feet above sea level but I had never had trouble during mountain vacations before.

I was taking an art workshop and my heart pounded for the whole week. It could have been serious but as soon as we got down to Santa Fe I was fine. I guess 7000 feet is my limit now.

Take care driving up there.

Thanks for posting this information. I have been warning folks of this for some time now. Thank God the State Reps from the District I reside in are rated A+ by the GOA, but I still contact them and let them know how I feel about the Ammunition Accountability Act.

Unfortunately on the Fed level, Elizabeth Dole lost to Kay Hagan who is rated F by the GOA, but I won’t give up the fight. I did take the oath to ‘Defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic’ and defend I will. Seems to me we are running out of ‘foreign’ enemies.

Here’s some good info. about the Ammunition Accountability Act for those that are concerned:

On the other hand, banning the manufacture, importation and sale of centerfire pistol ammunition, except to the military and sworn peace officers, would likely be highly effective.

Banning guns and ammo in Australia resulted in the crime rate to triple.
