Fireplace police on patrol; smoke can draw fine
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | November 20, 2008 | Steve Rubenstein and Grant junkie

The fireplace police descended on the Bay Area on Wednesday.

For the first time ever, residential fires are illegal under a new law, passed in July, that bans home burning on winter season Spare the Air days.

The first such ban took effect at noon. Seventy inspectors from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District planned to spend the day and evening patrolling residential neighborhoods, looking for telltale chimney wisps.

Violators will get warnings by mail. Repeat offenders face fines of as much as $2,000.

The fireplace police say they are determined to keep law and order in the living room.

"We're serious," said district spokeswoman Kristine Roselius. "This is a major health threat. The weather conditions are such that smoke is trapped closer to the ground and anyone with respiratory problems will have a hard time breathing."

This is just like the Nazi SS and the Communist KGB. They are in direct violation of the Constitution but they live in a place that is not part of the United States so we need to put a fence up and keep them in there.

We need to figure out how to attach riders like our politicians do. No fireplace burning, no school on Friday, safety home inspections for anyone over 60, no drinking under 25 and a 10 dollar monthly fee on all welfare recipients. That cover everyone?.

We live in Pleasant Hill in the East Bay. On Monday night my stepdaughter said she was cold, and wanted me to light the fireplace. Since it was a spare the air day, I explained that the Nazis wouldn’t let us light a fire, and she’d have to make do with a sweatshirt.

Our response here should be to gather together as many homeowners as possible, at least a thousand to start, all using their fireplaces on the same day/evening. Lets see if the fireplace jackboots can keep up with that.

Next, compile a list of the politicians responsible for this pack of unelected bureaucrats. Names, titles, addresses and phone numbers. It will come in handy later.

A new sort of terrorism is on the horizon. Break into people’s homes and light a fire in their fireplace then leave!!!!

I know, I know. I have no sympathy for the gaybots who have a hard time giving BJs in the public square when the air gets bad. Boo-hoo!

How did your Grandmother live to be 81 and mine live to be 83? Uncles, Aunts who lived to be 90? Everybody was smoking cigarettes everywhere and they lived to tell about it. Their bodies should be donated to science fiction.

Good point!!
Our grandparents didn’t have crosswalks and seatbelt laws and calorie/nutrition police. If the kids in the neighborhood didn’t play nice in Gmas yard, she’d take ‘em by the ear and walk them (waddle them) to their house and stand there while their parents disciplined them. We washed our hands before we ate and didn’t use anti-bacterial anything - just plain old soap. If our new found way of life is so superior, then why are these great people still around?

I guess Pelosi will be advocating Botox credits next, for the San-Fran Trannies.

One of the things that really make this a joke is the same people harp about renewable energy sources. Well, wood is a renewable energy source. It works well and can be grown rather quickly if the right trees are planted. There are people in my area of CA(no wood burning ban here)that have been burning wood off of the same acres for years dating back back to the 1800s when their ancestors owned the land, merely replant and cut only what you need. SF is full of idiots. The people in that area should take this to the courts.

For a minute there I thought they banned people from burning their houses to keep warm. Now that would be desperation.

Would not Nancy Pelosi’s private jet spew much more pollution in a single trip than these fireplaces in an entire winter?

Then they’ll pass a no burn ban also. Then you’ll have to freeze in the dark. It’s sheer stupidity.

I had no idea there were laws against this.
So,, when fuel oil becomes too expensive, you’ll freeze or go to prison for starting a fire in your fireplace?
The laws just keep coming and coming.
Like a grip on our throats, their bony little fingers just keep squeezing tighter and tighter.

I didn't want to say anything, but Nancy Pelosi is really my Grandfather. He is 104 years young. Amazing what plastic surgery can do.

I wonder how long until they have a list of what IS NOT banned, because it’s so much shorter.
