Great. I wonder what kind of legislation Pelosi and Reid will come up with to prevent this from "ever happening again."

Condolences to the families involved.

I had heard stories about people grabbing items out of their carts, and the rudeness on display, but being there brings it to a whole new level. It’s not for me.

That is an excellent idea. One of the other things that bothers me so much about this incident (I mean two lives were lost - a 38 year old man in the prime of his life and a precious unborn child)is that I feel confident that there was not one person in the crush of people that NEEDED the thing they were buying. I have read of people crushing people to get food and water and I totally can understand that desperation. However, to push, kick, trample, and stampede all so you can get $50 off some electronic equipment????

If these people are buying gifts because they celebrate Christmas, I think they should seriously consider what it is they are really celebrating.

It hasn’t been for me either, for a long time.

I was just pointing out that this is not a new phenomena, nor is it confined to discount stores like WalMart.

Me, too!

In a crowd at an outdoor concert years ago—for Air Supply no less!!

It was terrifying to feel so powerless...I swear there were moments when my feet were not on the ground!

Prayers for that employee’s family—I worked at ToysRUs a few years ago during Black Friday and while the crowd didn’t get that crazy, there were a few crazed customers who literally scared me when I told them they could only get the limit of whatever toys they wanted...one woman literally swept her arm across several shelves of Bratz dolls and put a boatload in her cart, when there were signs EVERYWHERE that said LIMIT 2 ONLY!!! When I pointed that out to her, I think if she’d had a gun I wouldn’t be here today (over DOLLS)—she smart-alecky told me, “I’m getting two for me, two for my sister, two for my kid, two for my other kid...” and basically dared me to stop her-I wound up calling one of the area managers over to deal with it because I felt like she could actually get violent. Over Bratz dolls! *shakes head dazedly at such behavior*

Someone referred to riots at Walmart......at the time I thought he was being facetious.

Absolutely pathetic.

Don’t insult animals by comparing them to whatever did this.

Savages. I watched the video clip of the paramedics working on this poor guy. Very sad and the comments from some of those in the crowd were disgusting.

I agree, but if the Remmington 700’s were half off I would have been in the crowd.

If guns were on sale, I expect there would be a single, orderly line. How is it going in your area today, for you folks in S Carolina?

Only people do.

Stampedes are a “third world” mentality. These things usually only happen to religious pilgrimages in India.

You betcha!

I think there are several threads about this, so I hope I’m not repeating myself. But in the town I live in, BF is very civil and festive. People are always helping each other to find stuff, and when you’re waiting in a long line, you make friends with the people around you. The woman I was standing w/at Target this morning watched my cart while I went back for more stuff. I did the same for her. If someone’s looking lost, another shopper usually stops to see if they need help.

I hate getting up early, and I hate crowds, but I always come back from BF morning smiling. Every town in America isn’t as disgusting as that place in the news.

Thank goodness you have a civilized crowd for patrons. Best wishes for a prosperous holiday season.

...”they need to close the doors and hold everyone in until the police goes over the video taped evidence. Someone else’s greed killed this boy. RIP.”

I agree, but how would they do that? the article said the guy was trampled because the shoppers waiting in line (probably outside in the cold) literally took the doors off their hinges. the center piece of metal was folded like an accordian.

Greed on the part of Walmart and other retailers perhaps, but I think it’s more than just greed on the part of the shoppers.... I think it’s desperation. Some stores market to and know their customers are often in need of the lowest price possible, will offer a ridiculously low price on an item they also advertise limited quantities on for the holidays. It’s like throwing one minnow to a school of starving sharks who’s babies only eat minnows. What do these stores expect to happen?

Last month we all went through our closets, had 4 bags of clothes for Good Will. Told my youngest (11) to clean his room gather up his clothes and put them in the laundry bag. A few days later while doing laundry I was puzzled why he had hardly any clothes. I asked him where he was putting them. He said you told me to put them in the bag. He obviously didn’t hear me say LAUNDRY bag and put MOST of his clothes, in the Good Will bag which was long gone.
