Will Obama's copyright czar help save the music?

From Bruce Springsteen to Stevie Wonder, plenty of musicians supported President-elect Barack Obama. Now music executives are wondering what kind of support they'll see from the Obama administration.

Soon after an inauguration that Washington, D.C., insiders are speculating could be one of the musical events of the year, Obama will officially name a copyright czar -- one of the most important decisions he'll make, as far as the music business is concerned.

Ruh-Roh! Fergetabout the music...there are LOTS of ways around that including analog recordings. What is showing up on my radar is the effect it might have on websites like FR.

Over the next 4 years it looks like an "Eagles UP!" pretty much 24/7 for this and lots of other reasons.

My question is, “Why bother to save the music?” I haven’t heard a single song worth even stealing in the last six months, let alone one worth buying.

Very, VERY true! It's no wonder the "music industry" is in the dumps. There is literally NOTHING from the new "artists" that I can listen to.

Mostly I listen to older country western, folk or gospel music or play them on my guitar.

Yes, I too share your thoughts.

I love older music, and I also love classical in the early morning as it helps my brain ease into the grind of my commute.

It’s the older songs they’re also going after. Those copyrights last forever.

This is a fun one to point out to the ignorant young masses who voted for Change. Tell them that Obama wants to stop their music stealing... I mean downloading.

This isn’t about saving the music, it’s about saving the music industry’s business model, which is completely outdated. They still want to control how and where we buy music and it is a losing battle.

You know what strikes me is odd is that a few weeks ago I was talking with a friend and I bet him I could write a piece combining Big Band with Big Beat and it would work.

This except is what I finished yesterday.

I'm not a musician...I'm just some bozo with a computer and a synthezizer....how is it that I can sit in my apartment and write something like that but if you turn on the radio you're subjected to so-called professionals who don't understand the basics like, counterpoint or key modulation?

How are these people making a living?

Why is it that topless futuristic space girls pop into my head?

Good beat, I give it a 7.

He pulls this crap, and I will go back to getting free music instead of purchasing it from legal sites.

I used to get it all for free in college and then decided to no longer do so just because I felt guilty even though I hated the RIAA.

But, this would send me back to that.
