The President and his family are at Camp David where they will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

The President called members of the Armed Forces stationed in remote locations worldwide to wish them a happy Thanksgiving and thank them for their service to our nation

President Bush on Thursday applauded Iraq's parliamentary vote approving an agreement allowing U.S. troops to remain for three more years, saying it "affirms the growth" of democracy there. LINK

President George W. Bush called Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday to convey his sympathy for the victims of the "despicable" attacks in Mumbai and offer US help. LINK

Former first lady Barbara Bush was doing well Wednesday following her surgery late Tuesday night to repair and seal a perforated ulcer, according to the surgeon who performed the operation. "She is up in a chair. She's very vigorous. She is in charge," said Dr. Patrick Reardon. "The first thing she did when her lips worked was to tell a joke." LINK

Congratulations - I’ll miss them too, but I think perhaps they have had their fair share of persecution. Glad they can get the heck out of Dodge soon.

Hello there. Hope you had a wonderful turkey dinner and that you got to be with your families. W. has a nice family, though I bet he wished he were in TX this weekend to visit his Mama. I heard she is doing well and the biopsy was benigh. Hope she is well enough to celebrate Christmas at Camp David.

The President looks sad and worried in many of these photos. God Bless him and God Bless America.

I have been struck by the recent pictures of President Bush, how he has dramatically aged over the past 8 years.

He has handled the office of POTUS with dignity and grace, despite being ill-served by many of those he gave his loyalty, trust, and confidence. I wish he had fought harder against his critics, but that's water under the bridge now.

There's no doubt that the Iraq conflict and the GWOT took precedence over domestic issues, and the Republicans in Congress squandered their chances by failing to lead.

My opinion about President Bush will always remain mixed, but I wish him happiness and a long life beyond the White House.

Yes, President Bush looks sad and worried today and I was looking at the presser and remembering how we once noted fluffy hair .
So much has happened. Fighting terror was enough but he has also had to fight Democrats every day.

To: daisyscarlett; anyone

Has anyone heard how the former First Lady Barbara Bush is doing? The news here said she was operated on for a perforated ulcer (may not be true). Is she out of the hospital? Her condition? Such a wise and beautiful lady.

UPDATE ON DAD
Still very tired I think it will take him several days to get back to where he was on the tiredness level. They have upped him to light diet with sips of water. He finds water hard to tolerate for 2 reasons the chest infection makes him cough and also he has a terrible sore throat and thrush in the mouth and throat for which he has to have special drops 4 times a day.

He slept most of the day and his voice is hard to hear because of the sore throat and thrush. I bought a little handbag size tin of Vaseline today for his lips as they are cracked and bleeding probably from the oxygen even though they have water running through it, it is still drying him out.

He had 2 super nurses today the first the sister in law of our neighbour who goes to the strict and particular baptist church, the church where mum is buried and the minister has visited dad in hospital 3 or 4 times. She was great with him this morning and before I arrived had been giving him several sips of water which he does find hard to tolerate. The other was an Indian nurse from Mauritius she was great and managed to get the drug run done, the IV drugs up and dad’s feed on before she handed over and probably his IV fluid as well because she said she would do before she handed over and although I left prompt on 8.00pm I am certain she will do it before she goes which meant I went home not worrying that this had or had not been done.

Our friend Brenda who used to come in and be with mum 3 times a week and then later continued to come in to keep dad company and also do a bit around the house to help me came up to the hospital today to see dad, her daughter now comes in to us as Brenda found it too much with her bad back.

Our friend across the road Tony also visited and bought me home. I managed to get a full night’s sleep last night and today ate in the hospital restaurant. They do a meal for about 3.50 pounds sterling, I had cottage pie which is minced (ground beef) in gravy with mixed diced vegetables with a mashed potato topping and for sweet rhubarb crumble which is stewed rhubarb with a topping of flour rubbed into fat and then mixed with sugar put into the oven to cook till crisp served with British custard (Bird’s).

Tony bought me home tonight as he stayed until 8.00pm and tomorrow my friend Phil will take me up there and collect me.

All in all things seemed stable today his temperature was lower though did not up and down slightly, all other stats seemed stable, urine output still above target but we will know more when the consultant is back on duty on Monday as over the weekend it is only the junior doctors plus the on call consultant around.

Major areas for prayer as I see is that the chest/lung infection clear up completely and that he gradually regains his strength to meet the next challenge in recovery whatever that might be.

Another items for prayer is that dad gets good nights when rang the hospital this morning he did not have one and this morning after giving him a wash it looks as if he has finally gone to sleep.

Once again many thanks for your prayers, support, thought and love and yes I am getting my rest and eating enough thank you for being concerned about me as well.
Love Eleanor

I will try to post the dose daily the update but in case I do not I will ping starwise to the thread she started for prayer which I will try to do a daily update straight after getting home from the hospital if I can.
