Reid: Obama/McCain Agreement on Immigration ( AMNESTY )
The Hill ^ | November 25th | Chris Good

Posted on 11/27/2008 2:29:51 AM PST by Halfmanhalfamazing

President-elect Barack Obama and his former general election rival, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz), have come to an agreement on immigration, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid told the Detroit Free Press in a recent interview. Reid said the two standard-bearers have agreed to move forward on immigration legislation during Obama's White House tenure. "On immigration, there's been an agreement between Obama and McCain to move forward on that," Reidsaid when how Congress would handle immigration and healthcare with expanded Democratic majorities and Obama in the White House. Early on in their general election campaign, both McCain and Obama pledged to enact sweeping immigration reforms. McCain attempted to pass a massive immigration bill during the last Congress, forging alliances with such heavyweights as Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and President Bush. McCain proposed granting a pathway to citizenship for illegal resident aliens and ramping up security efforts along the U.S./Mexico border. The effort failed. When asked if immigration reform would cause "as much of a fight" in Congress the next time it comes up, Reid cited McCain as a key GOP ally who could enable Democrats to enact reforms. "We've got McCain and we've got a few others. I don't expect much of a fight at all," Reid said. The Detroit Free Press posted Reid's interview to its website Sunday.

Canada’s economy and dollar are strong. Perhaps we should be long on the peso!

Yeah, I know.

They already have a 60 vote filibuster proof majority.

We need to use the same type of border control that Mexico uses on its southern border.

Mexico, on the other hand, is not so generous when its national sovereignty is being violated. Since 1974, anyone found entering Mexico illegally is subject to two years of incarceration, if they are lucky. For years Mexican troops on Mexico’s southern border have used land mines and assault rifles to deter Central American immigrants from entering Mexico. Anyone trying to cross Mexico’s southern border illegally can be killed with little or no notice to the media.

I'd rather see them nothing, meaning things the way they are now, than do something like amnesty and instant citizenship. I know that's not good and I'm not saying doing nothing is good, but compared to how we are living out Atlas Shrugged with every bad decision and law begetting more of the same, the last thing we need is these clymers doing something on immigration.

It’s amazing people voted for either one of these amnesty lovers.

I’m sure it took Juan McLame about ten seconds to hammer out that agreement. He may have fought for the country once, but he doesn’t hesitate to betray it if he thinks it will by him some raciists votes.

Now I remember why I only voted for McCain when I absolutely had to. He is done, a bad chapter in Republican history. Good bye and good riddance.

Romney = sanctuary.
Romeny = RINO

One RINO is not the answer for the problems created by another.

I’m all for it being a FELONY to be in my country illegally. And there should be no excuses for Hunter’s double fence to be completed as written and passed into law.

It is a felony.

I agree with most of the responses here so far that McCain is a problem. Although, Newt’s “Real Change” gives a good glimpse into why he is a problem. He’s one of those who spent the majority of his career in the minority, and he has a minority mindset. It’s not that he isn’t a conservative, he’s in the habit of compromising his beliefs to the point where he ends up giving up way too much to get somewhere.

He didn’t win because he isn’t any kind of leader and can’t even disguise himself as one like Obama did so well.

“They already have a 60 vote filibuster proof majority.”

Even if the Dem's pick up the two pending senate seats in Minnesota and Georgia, I think having a filibuster proof majority will be issue dependent. As an example, there are some RINOS in the Republican party that will probably align themselves with the Dem's on environmental legislation. There are Blue Dog Dem's that will probably align themselves with Republicans on any upcoming anti-gun legislation. So, it remains to be seen whether or not Pelosi and Reed will be able to jam through whatever legislation they desire at will.

Time for another episode of, "FUN WITH NUMBERS!!"

What do we have more of in this country, A)Unemployed people who are part of the official statistic for unemployment, or B) Illegal Aliens who hold jobs??

If you get the right answer, we will send you a home version of our game. Just leave a credit card number and telephone number so we can ensure delivery.

Now we know why immigration was not mentioned by either during the campaign. It’s going to be a long four years, eight if the GOP presents us with another nose-holder-voter.

Problem is, of course, that our laws mean nothing any more. President-elect may not be qualified according to the Constitution? Election laws are broken? Who cares...Our borders are wide open but US citizens can’t get in without a passport...and we continue to fight terrorism abroad while allowing organized gangs to run rampant through our cities. There’s no consistency here, laws aren’t enforced in a way that makes sense, and our government cannot be counted on to protect its citizens.
