SIOUX CITY -- Authorities say a Mexican man who has been deported or forced to leave the country 12 times has pleaded guilty to transporting illegal immigrants in Woodbury County.
The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Tuesday that Jose Rosalio Trujillo-Perez, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of transportation of illegal immigrants. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
According to court documents, an Iowa State trooper stopped Trujillo-Perez on Nov. 5 for a traffic violation on southbound Interstate 29 in Woodbury County.
The trooper contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials when Trujillo-Perez and all five passengers presented Mexican travel documents.
According to court documents, an investigation found that Trujillo-Perez had entered the country illegally on Oct. 25 in southeast Arizona. He agreed to drive 11 illegal immigrants from Phoenix to Sioux Center, Iowa, and Pennsylvania to erase a $1,500 debt to a human smuggler.
Trujillo-Perez already had dropped off some of the people in Sioux Center and was on his way to Pennsylvania when he was arrested, according to court documents.
When there are no consequences why should they worry?
I move the word "incorrigible" be stricken from the English language. All those in favor so signify.
Bush pardon in the works at this very moment.
ICE is a real `pit-bull’ (if pit-bills had rubber teeth ...)
After he was caught the first time he realized that there was little or no downside and a huge upside to this illegal activity.
The rational pursuit of self interest dictates that he follow this course of action until the downside outweighs the upside.
For every demand there is a supply.
Laws are only a carrying cost, or overhead, depending on the law and the application.
13th time’s a charm? ;)
He faces up to 10 years in prison. Bet it will get reduced to 10 days....
ping
That sounds like a reasonable defense!
Your Honor, I have been doing this a long time and never before did anyone mention anything about prison. I was always given a free meal and a plane ride back home, Sir.
Deported 12 times. Maybe the 13th will be the charm.
Tell ya what. Lets all leave and this guy can stay. Would that make the loony libs happy I wonder? Enough of this crap. We’re a country, not a boarding house. Enforce the damn immigartion laws!
“How many times do they have to be deported before it becomes a serious crime as in repeat offender ?”
IIRC, the SECOND illegal entry is a Felony.
Also, iirc, it was Sensenbrenner’s (sp) attempts to pass legislation that would make being here in the country, illegally, a felony. There was such loud objection to it by the Open Border’s Lobby, that soon thereafter McCain joined forces with Kennedy to give a swift kick back, changing the direction of discussion on ‘comprehensive immigration reform’ to prevent include amnesty.
