Mumbai: At least 15 people have been injured in gunfights between two groups in at least three places in Mumbai on Thursday night.
Details are sketchy but it is believed that two gangs fired at each other at outside CST Railway Terminus, Hotel Oberoi and the popular Café Leopold restaurant in Mumbai.
The first shooting took place near the CST police station

couple this with the earlier news about the speedboats supposedly being registered from Pakistan . . . not good
Now I’m more curious than ever, I was wondering earlier this evening how difficult it would be for AQ to make it’s way down to Karachi from Peshawar area and then by boat over to Mumbai... I’m guessing not all that difficult given the conditions in Pakistan these days.
Recent posts indicate an even smaller number of attackers than I guessed. One post says there were ten, which would correspond to two boats, but I think that number must be low. I didn’t see the posts about RDX until after I said I hadn’t seen anything about satchel charges. Interesting — RDX can probably be traced to its manufacturer.

“RDX is believed to have been used in many bomb plots including terrorist plots. It was said to have been used in the Bombay (Mumbai) serial bomb blasts of 12 March 1993 in which more than 300 people were killed and about 1,500 injured. Again, on 11 July 2006, a series of powerful explosions took place on seven suburban railway trains on Mumbai’s Western Railway line killing 209 and injuring over 700. The use of RDX by the Islamic terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba in this incident was subsequently confirmed by India’s state investigating agencies. It was recently used in the serial Jaipur blasts, as well as in the Islamabad Marriott Hotel bomb blast of 20th September 2008 in which more than 50 people were killed and more than 300 people were injured.

A trip by rubberized boat would have taken at least two days from Karachi. And they probably would have only traveled by night with no lights. I am more likely to believe the Islamic pirates or Pakistan extremists have a diesel sub at play here.

“Police to keep tabs on boats”

SNIPPET: “Guwahati, Nov. 26: Assam police have decided to register country boats that ply on the Brahmaputra to keep tabs on their movement and thus check their use by Ulfa militants.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In February this year, the police recovered 10kg of RDX from a country boat at Goroimari in Kamrup, about 100km from Guwahati. Four militants belonging to the 27 battalion of Ulfa and the boatman were apprehended along with the explosives.
The official said the militants favoured the country boats because it was difficult to detect them, especially at night. “That these are not mechanised and, therefore, make no noise,” he said.
Mechanised boats, called bhutbhuti, ply mainly in and around Guwahati to ferry passengers across the river.
The other vessels that ply on the river are the bigger steamers, mostly under the inland water transport department of the state government.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “MUMBAI: Investigations into the September 2008 Malegaon blast have revealed that the suspects were looking beyond maiming the textile town. They were actually working to convert India into a Hindu Rashtra by 2025.
“Interrogation of Sudhakar Dwivedi alias Dayanand Pandey, who is in police custody till December 1, has revealed that the group was working to create an `Aryavarta Rashtra’ in India,’’ an Anti-Terrorism Squad official said. “They wanted to make India like what it was when it was ruled by the Aryans; their dream was to convert the country into a Hindu Rashtra and an Akhand Bharat,’’ an official said.
The suspects planned to infiltrate government departments everywhere in the country with like-minded people and then convert India from a secular country into a Hindu Rashtra, officials said.”
