The "Christmas Boat Parade" in Patchogue, N.Y., has a new name and one less sponsor.
This year, the annual celebration was changed to the "Patchogue Boat Parade of Lights," after some residents complained using "Christmas" in the name wasn't inclusive enough. Sunday's event drew 500 fewer people than in the past, according to news reports.
Philip Butler, vice president of the nearby fireworks company Fireworks by Grucci, helped to get "Christmas" into the name, and dropped his sponsorship of the event after the name change.
"They are using all the themes of Christmas and plagiarizing all those themes and not using the name," said Butler, who donated $5,000 in fireworks last year.
