McCain Plans to Run Again (for the Senate)
NY Times ^ | 11/25/08 | Kate Phillips

In his first real news conference since the week following his defeat for the presidency, Senator John McCain emerged today in Phoenix to talk about his own future.

He said he plans to run again in 2010 — it may seem a long time from now for you but so many are already gearing up for the midterm elections that maybe it’s no surprise. The longtime Arizona senator — at age 72 — had already returned to the Senate earlier this month and tried to deflect media inquiries every time he ventured into one of its public hallways.

At his news conference today, he continued to defend his selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a choice that many top Republicans and their pundits ultimately came to blame for his decline in the polls. While the conservative newcomer was enormously popular at rallies during the fall election season, her lack of foreign policy experience and her inconsistent performances in interviews undercut the Republican presidential ticket for many leading Republican thinkers.

I doubt very seriously if he will carry Mohave County. People here voted against Obama not FOR McCain... if a true conservative steps up and runs against him he will have a tough race. He never has competition and he takes this state and our votes for granted. Yes, he is a war hero. That is no reason for the state of AZ to keep bending over and grabbing their ankles for him.

I repeat. WHAT has he done for OUR state? He hardly even bothers to show up here... and he could care less that we are being over run with illegals here... in fact he supports them.

her lack of foreign policy experience

They write this with a straight face and then pull the lever for Obama.

Yes. Then let Obama name him secretary of defense... just get him out of Arizona along with Napolitano; neither will be missed here.

Yeah...he’s quite a strong voice for Israel....and it looks like they’re going to need friends.

We don’t agree on everything...but his position on Israel/abortion/pork spending/the military.....those are vitally important during the Obama years....so I’ll get out and work for him.

Since y'all are so happy with him, why don't you recruit him as your governor? That way we can be rid of his "reaching across the aisle" to aid the Rats (amnesty, global warming regulation, CFR, etc) and you can enjoy him all to yourselves.

I second that emotion! The happiest day for me was when he finally went back to his buddy Linseed to lick his wounds after he managed to lose the race for the GOP.

The good thing for Mccain is that we know someone still is gaga for him. LOL

AZ will be happy and proud to re-elect him! He’s not perfect; but he’s damn good and we’re glad to have him.

That is your opinion which you are entitled to. It is your right to like McCain/Feingold, "Close the gunshow loophole," McCain Kennedy etc. if you like.

Some of us see him as damn good at stabbing us in the back, at every turn, and are not glad to have him. We've spent hundreds of hours on the border, McCain will throw our accomplishments away at the first opportunity.

There is no doubt that he will be re-elected, no one electable will run against him, but he'll have to do it without my vote. I voted for him in November because BO is so bad, but now I'm back to voting for the Libertarian who runs against him.

So you are okay with Arizona's sending money to DC and never getting any back and instead having it sent to people who build greenhouses in Illinois (for example)? Do you know we Arizona taxpayers along the Colorado River were mandated by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT that we had to put in a sewer system instead of our septic tanks -- which have worked just fine. Now every single Colorado River City is deeply in debt (due to this federal mandate) and people on fixed income are having to let their plants in their yards die because they cannot afford to water them and John McCain, John Kyl or Trent Franks did not get one red cent to help defray the cost of this federal mandate -- while people like Barack Obama sent millions and millions to places like the University of illinois...

There is pork and there is pork and when the federal government mandatates entire small cities spend multi millions dollars on something they or their residents don't want then it is up to people like McCain to find a way to help defray the cost of that FEDERAL mandate.. I am not talking hand outs because of some wish list item, but a mandate no one wanted.... so don't I don't want to hear about McCain and his ZERO pork right now..

McRat and Linseed are quite a pair. Destroying the GOP from within.

If they don’t challenge him and win, his seat will go democratic in 2010. Napolitano was polling way ahead of him for the last year in a match up.

Another example of why term limits are a good thing.

In six months, McCain will be ingratiating himself with the Democrats, and Chrissy on MSNBC.

Its what he does. Its also why he just got his butt kicked by a lightweight political hack from Chicago, but thats water under the bridge now.

Then don’t vote for him....that’s fine...find a better canidate and run them....but Sarah will be here campaigning for him....and I’ll work for him....it’s nice to live in a free country!

If I were you...I’d be much more worried about Napolotanto being the HEAD of Homeland Security. At least McCain wanted some hurdles put in place before giving citizanship....Not her...she wants blanket amnesty.

Don’t kid yourself that he didn’t and doesn’t want complete amnesty as well. His good friend Juan Hernandez went underground once it was revealed in the election period that he was McCain’s Hispanic advisor === BTW how well did that work out for him? Hint... not very well... you see legal Hispanics here are not any more thrilled with giving a free pass to illegals than many of us Anglo s.

and don’t count on him getting much support from Palin after he threw her under the Straight Talk Express.

“AND there aren’t ~other~ republicans that can do the same (..but you agree with on more issues..)?”

Nope. We don’t have anyone that wants to run against him...and quite frankly...the average citizen respects McCain and I think they want to see him serve out his last term.

Agreement on 80-90% of the issues is great....most don’t have Senators that they can say that about. And abortion is one of my big issues, followed by low taxes and a strong military...all of which he’s very strong on.

There are many bitter freepers...that can never be happy....They’ll spend time calling McCain names but won’t lift a finger to work on putting people as conservative as McCain in as their own Senators.

I think there are a number of freepers with “McCain Derangement Syndrome”..

He’s not perfect....but then...who is?
