That's why some people can't believe the 2% number--since it's an overall number and is lower in other places. Also, in those other places, homosexuals are less likely to be "out" about it.
Two percent of a population is nothing to sneeze at. Jane Sheehan's queer nation chant of "We're here; we're queer; get used to it!" seems to be the current situation. Many high-schoolers have no idea that even a generation ago, homosexuality wasn't viewed as something people were generally open about. They have no clue that it wasn't until 1973 that strong-arm tactics rewrote medical practice. Today's youth see homosexuality as perfectly acceptable and all around them. And yes, in the attention-seeking culture of today, many gravitate toward it.
So, if conservatives recognized that "the media" are the problem, along with public schools, why don't they get out and do something about it? I have substitute taught in public schools and I have run two newspapers...yes, I've thrown my life away for the cause :-), but if every conservative did only a fraction, think of how we could raise an educated, knowledgeable, thinking, and informed generation!
