DL: How many people will it kill?
The sunglasses may be hiding an eye droop that came with the stroke.

Nice clean plant, anyway.Yes but the lighting s*cks. Notice the glare from the camera flash? Then it looks like the sum total of the ambient light is coming from wall sconces -- what's with that? They must be rationing electricity.

Right, you are. The photo flash is probably providing most of the light at the place. Electricity is rationed for only a few hours a day, unless the place is strategically important. This is a soap factory, far down the priority list. I won't be surprised that this factory has not been running for some time and only brought back to operation for this photo-op.

The floor looks like oil or grease was spilled on it for thirty years...

Note the couple shots of actual workers.
When you see pictures of politicians touring businesses in this country the workers are laughing/smiling or even chatting with them.
In these pictures, it’s just another face. A mindless button pusher of a starving Utopian society.

The place with stains on the floor looks like a loading dock or a storage room.
In all likelihood, you won't be shot for leaving some stains there.:-)

I’ve been at Mexican asphalt plants that were cleaner. A lot cleaner.
To: Eric in the Ozarks
Probably so. Imagine what it would be like before Chia Head dropped in. I think they did as best as they could with mops, brooms, and soaps.

The factory is alleged to be situated in Shinuiju.
- - - - - -
It is the capital of North P’yongan Province, North Korea, on the border with China. The city is near Shinuiju Special Administrative Region, which was established in 2002 to try introducing the market economy.
The city is on the border with China, which is marked by the Yalu River, which empties into Korea Bay at this location. The city is connected to Dandong, China by bridge via the Sino-Korea Friendship BridgeThe Sino-Korea Friendship Bridge (also called the Sino-Korean or China-Korea Friendship Bridge connects the cities of Dandong, China and Shinuiju, North Korea. It crosses the Yalu River, carrying pedestrian, road, and rail traffic. The bridge is one of the only ways to enter North Korea.

Question: Why did they choose Shinuiju? Is it a signal for market economy or to China?

One little production line. That’s pathetic. You are probably looking at North Korea’s entire industrial output for 2008!

I take it that you don’t appreciate the poetry that includes the “modern hydraulic technology”, and that “the revolutionary spirit of the people has improved the efficacy of the machines”. ;-)
