The sovereign Republic Of Texas has the right to secede from the United States at any time. We were an independent nation for 10 years. We can be again. Especially since THIS time, we have most of the manufacturing, enough agriculture, many nuclear power plants, etc., etc.

Amen.

PS We also have lots of "squirrel hunting tools" and an ingrained sense of independence and state pride (as opposed to prideful statism).

"Not without the political will to do so. I doubt our political class has the courage to tell the American public the truth about our economic condition."

I think you are correct. Even if someone had the courage, would anyone listen?

Congressman Ron Paul has been saying, and doing, this for years. He is ignored, marginalized, and scoffed at for his troubles.

Frankly, most of America is going to get what it deserves for its amazing lack of civic prudence, historical knowledge, and political self-control. We are already Balkanized into at least 3 distinct groups: Liberals, Conservatives, and Mexicans, with each group representing 10's of millions of people. If these groups can geographically divide into distinct regions, the break-up of the US will be defacto complete.

Can we get this propaganda piece out of “breaking news” please?

Dears Sirs: My excellent judgment with this piece was just confirmed by the headline in the Drudge Report today. Drudge thinks it is the biggest news story of the day. Therefore, it is. But I scooped him. Isn't that ideal?

Please restore it to "breaking news".

I think Dixie might form its own country and might combine with Texas.

That'd be alright by me.

I love Texas and the people I have met around Helotes.I have stories, but some not appropriate for here!

Took the City bus out of San Antoniio once, headed for the Highland Games. It was another 5 mile from the end of the line. I hitched in Kilt carrying pipes. Two lads from Helotes stopped in there Dodge PU, picked me up, then wouldn't let me out. We went to an ice house, where they got me half full of ale, and I played the pipes. When we were done, there was a crowd of 40 or 50. THEN they took me to the games.

Great folks. They didn't want me to leave, and I didn't want to either!

Through the end of 2006 the number of foreigners who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan while serving in the US military stood at 100, according to the Boston Globe. Ninety-three of them were granted US citizenship posthumously.

It looks you are right!

As for the NAU, well, I have no objection to extending the US Constitution (adding more states) from the north pole to the Panama Canal. Any other form of government would be unacceptable.

My take on what is happening is that the NAU was already formed by the Globalists and all that was left to do was formalize the deal and switch to the new currency. NAFTA and the open border situation had already laid the ground work. The current economic collapse IMHO is actually the economic collapse of the NAU. The heart of the matter was Sub-Prime mortgages and easy credit that was given to many NINJA. So the open border policy with respect to Mexico helped fund the entire NAU Easy Credit Economy. So basically the Feds already consider the US Constitution and the USA null and void. Fortunately for those of us who care about the US constitution, the feds economic house of cards is crumbling. We now get to watch 4 years of Obama and His Band of Progressos (Dino Globalists actually) try to salvage the collapsing socialist North American Union. Similar to the collapsed communist Soviet Union.

BTW - I am not giving up at all. Just popping popcorn and watching the fall. When Rome fell, almost all of Europe, the Levant and the entire North African coast were overrun and controlled by Germanic Tribes. The Romans called it the dark ages. The Germanic Tribes no doubt called it their glory years. Eventually they were beaten back into Western Europe and the only major tribes that survived long term were the Anglo-Saxons (English) and the Franks (France and Germany). I guess we will see if history has a way of repeating itself. Instead of tribes this time it looks like we will have regions.

While driving through West Texas on the I20, I was surprised to see a Scottish Motel along the freeway. Was all painted in the colors of Scotland. Talk about a place with plenty of open land, West Texas seems to be a great place to hide. I got some Scottish in me too (50 % Scottish).

Certainly entitlements are far too high, but Im afraid even if they are cut it isnt going to be enough.

There are only three ways to close the budget gap. Either:

1) Increase the income of the Federal government.
2) Decrease the expenditure of the Federal government.
3) Both.

If spending can only be constrained so far, and the general feeling is that is so, then the rest of the gap is going to have to be filled by increasing income, ie increase taxes.

In 1950, there were 16 workers paying Social Security taxes for every retired person receiving benefits. Today there are 3.3. By 2030, there will be only 2. By 2030, there will be 70 million Americans of retirement age--twice as many as today. SS is unsustainable as currently structured. It is also a pay as you go system that will start going into the red in 2017, i.e., it will be paying out more than it is taking in.

If nothing is done, by 2060, the combination of Social Security and Medicare will account for more than 71 percent of the federal budget.

The status quo is not an option.

If there are any Yankees (read: liberals) who have moved to the South, we’ll help them move back where they belong. That’s what I was trying to say.

Nothing like stating the obvious. The burden will fall on our children and grandchildren to pay the bill. Increasing the tax burden will deaden the economy decreasing revenue and losing jobs. You can only tax so much and then the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.

Not even close. In the UK the top tax rate is 61% and in Scandanavia it is even higher.
