FORT LUPTON — Barry Manilow's "I Write the Songs" may begin with the line, "I've been alive forever,'" but for noise ordinance violators, listening to Manilow may feel like forever.

Fort Lupton Municipal Judge Paul Sacco says his novel punishment of forcing noise violators to listen to music they don't like for one hour has cut down on the number of repeat offenders in this northwestern Colorado prairie town.

Sorry, but as much as I might agree with the sentiment, “Cruel and Unusual Punishment” is specifically banned by the Constitution. If Barry Manilow doesn’t qualify, I don’t know what does.

Fitting punishment for those boors who care not if the rest of the world has to be subjected to their “music”. But if I was judge I’d subject the guilty to a couple of hours of listening to Ornette Coleman’s “Free Jazz” at full blast. That would not only assault the ears, but would be likely to effect a permanent 10 point drop in IQ.

I love you.
You love me.
We're a great big family.
With a great big hug,
and a kiss from me to you.
Won't you say you love me too!

My take on Barney:

I hate you.

You hate me.

We're a ******-up family.

Well a shot rang out,

and Bobby hit the floor

Let's hang Barney from a tree...
