Fuquay-Varina, N.C. — Authorities arrested a man whom bystanders say they hit with a frozen turkey when he carjacked a woman's sedan outside a Fuquay-Varina grocery store Sunday.
The man stole money from a BP gas station at Ten-Ten Road and US. Highway 401 shortly before noon, Garner police said. He then crossed Ten-Ten to the parking lot of a Harris Teeter store and approached Irene Moorman Bailey loading groceries in her car.
Witnesses told police that the man started beating Bailey in the face, trying to get her keys.
“The lady was being beaten on the ground. She was lying on the ground and the guy was on top of her – physically hitting her,” shopper Randy Owens said.
Bystanders intervened and hit the man in the head with a frozen turkey that Bailey bought, police said.

Let’s be honest. Frozen Turkeys are DANGEROUS! Those things can weigh over 20 pounds! Maybe there was a use for frozen 20+ pound turkeys twenty years ago, but is there really any need any more?
We really need a government program placing controls on heavy frozen poultry!
Does anyone remember the short story about the woman who killed her husband by decking him with a frozen leg of lamb, then roasting it (the leg of lamb) and serving it to the detective who came to investigate the murder?

They dramatized it on Hitchcock, but it was based on a short story that I could swear was in the curriculum of my high school English class...... Could have been O. Henry.......
The detectives came to investigate and there was only a puddle of water on the floor or something.
That was a good Hitchcock episode, the one with the leg of lamb. The actress was that real creepy woman with the buggy eyes.

I’d tell you what we used to call Fuquay-Varina when I went to high school just up the road, but then I’d really get zotted.
I live near Fuquay myself. The gas station is actually more like halfway between Fuquay and Garner, about 10-15 minutes outside of Raleigh.
Found it; the title of the story is “Lamb to the Slaughter” and it was written by Roald Dahl. The whole story is posted online.
