During a tour of duty in Jordan in the mid-1970’s I came across a black man who had been captured somewhere in the horn of Africa and sold into slavery in Saudi Arabia. He had escaped and made his way to Jordan. He vowed he would never return to Saudi Arabia, where he would likely be put to death, or to his homeland, where he could be re-enslaved.
In Muslim Arab countries before the abolition of slavery, Christian Arabs (and Jews) also could own slaves. They just couldn't own Muslim slaves.
BTW, slavery in Muslim countries was never race-based. Muslims have always been equal-opportunity enslavers. For centuries the Ottomans raided eastern Europe and the Barbary pirates raided European shipping and Mediterranean coastlines. Millions of "white" slaves were obtained in this way, to go with the millions of black slaves imported across the Sahara and up the East African coast.
Wait until people find out that while Obama does not descend from slaves, He DOES descend from slave traders......on his FATHER’s side.

It exists in some, not all. It is generally technically illegal even where it exists.
Unless we're talking informal slavery, as of female and child "sex workers," and if we're going to count them we have lots of slaves in this country.
But its existence here is a result of this nation's increasing secularization.
OTOH in Islam slavery is acceptable because it is based on their code. It is acceptable and even an honored tradition as it has always been practiced on those who are not muslim.
