President-elect Barack Obama has yet to attend church services since winning the White House earlier this month, a departure from the example of his two immediate predecessors.
On the three Sundays since his election, Obama has instead used his free time to get in workouts at a Chicago gym.
Asked about the president-elect's decision to not attend church, a transition aide noted that the Obamas valued their faith experience in Chicago but were concerned about the impact their large retinue may have on other parishioners.
"Because they have a great deal of respect for places of worship, they do not want to draw unwelcome or inappropriate attention to a church not used to the attention their attendance would draw," said the aide.
Both President-elect George W. Bush and President-elect Bill Clinton managed to attend church in the weeks after they were elected.
In November of 1992, Clinton went to services in Little Rock, Ark., on the three weekends following his election, taking pre-church jogs on the first two and attending on the third weekend a Catholic Mass with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, with whom he was trying to smooth over lingering campaign tensions.

Not surprising.
Clinton, Carter, Reagan, Bush, etc......all were at least held in good standing in their respective home churches, even if I vehemently disagreed with their theology. None of them ever denied their faith or church, none of them.
Barack Obama is the first Presidential winner I can recall who actually denied his church and the tenets of his Faith. When threatened with being tossed into the lion’s den during the campaign this year, Barack Obama essentially said, “Jesus who?” (at least when one considers how he “found jesus” this is certainly true).
Truly, a first in my lifetime. Truly.
Why do you think I haven’t talked to you lately? ;-)
Oooooch!
*Burn!*
;-D
Not suprising for someone who is called the Messiah. What could church possibly have to teach Him?
And remember, the Anything-But-Revered Wright is a UCC "clergyman".
But Lincoln, Jefferson, and Reagan didn't do this. To me, that's the point.
Did he even go to bury his Grandmother?
Ditto..
Atheists do not go to church, silly!
He’s now raising the dead, too?
Wow!
Ah! Very good.
I think so, but I’m not sure.
Mr. President-elect, you can always ask a pastor to come to your place and you and your retinue can hear the Word of God. The church is not a place. The church is composed of people, the Body of Christ. If you are of the Body of Christ, then you should be worshiping.
Why don’t you see if a pastor would come to you and not tell the press, if that’s your concern.
Yep, time to dump the charade sez the O-child. Too late, suckers!
I'm Christian, but I'm more than okay with Lieberman being Jewish and with Romney being Mormon. I'm not okay with someone who claims to be religious during the campaign and then slides his "beliefs" back into a folder marked "Do Not Open Until 2012 Campaign". Faking faith reflects on integrity, or in the Affirmative Action President's case further supports the overwhelming conclusion that Obama is a complete and total fraud.
Lol
But honestly, it’s always good to see you. I hope you’re well.
For such a twerp this guy sure works out a lot.
Hebrews 10:25
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is,but exhorting one another; and so much the more as you see the day approaching"
