Israel fears US will dither while Iran goes nuclear

Mounting fears that the United States will do nothing to prevent Iran becoming a nuclear power will be outlined by Ehud Olmert, Israel’s prime minister, when he meets President George W Bush in Washington tomorrow.

Israel is concerned that Bush will pass the Iranian hot potato to Barack Obama, the president-elect, while the last chance of destroying Tehran’s nuclear bomb-making programme may be passing.

A Pentagon source told The Sunday Times earlier this year that Bush had given Israel an “amber light” to carry on with military preparations to attack Iranian nuclear sites.

According to Israeli intelligence sources, Iran has sufficient nuclear material to make an atomic bomb. “They are working on three programmes at once,” said the sources. “They are speeding up their centrifuges to enrich uranium, calibrating a warhead to fit their ballistic missiles and improving the range and accuracy of their ballistic missiles.”

Well you can kiss MDS goodbye. It's a goner.

And I disagree with your contention that Iran is of no threat to the US. Anytime someone wants to destroy you, they are a threat. I'm not saying we should go balls out and start dropping bombs on Tehran, but they should remain on a line of sight.

You are either very naive or very ignorant.

The Idea that Iran is not a threat to the USA is completely false. Imagine if you will, if they nuke Israel. (And they certainly will if they have the chance.)

Then imagine the World economic melt-down that will make this one look like an afternoon bake sale. Oil prices will go over 200 dollars a barrel overnight, Wall street and overseas socks will fall off the chart. It will be mayhem beyond your wildest nightmares.

Then, in addition, what will stop them from giving a bomb to Al Qaeda, or some other Terrorist cell?

But really, you sound very much like a DU Troll first, pacifist second.

Ok, so by your opinion, it is not our fight. Let me ask you this — They destroy Israel — Who would be the next logical target?

Does the phrase World trade center mean anything to you? Who do you think pulled that off? Amish settlers? The deed was done by Muslims. Iran is indeed a threat to us in several ways. One:) they will keep working to increase their missile range two:)There is no guarantee that Bozo will keep working on missile defense, in fact he was willing to give it up already, it was to be part of the Palestinian peace deal, where Israel gave up everything and we would give up missile defense. True, it was in the agreement. 3:) there are other ways to deliver nukes besides missiles. Putting one on a boat is one way to do it, run it into the harbor and set it off, good bye New York or whatever major city next to a seaport they choose. Could be LA, but probably NY.

You sound like that idiot Bozo when he was saying Iran was not a threat.

Lastly, your comment about no WMD in Iraq is just ignorant. At least 500 pounds of yellow cake was shipped out of there in the last year, yellow cake that liberals said wasn't there.

BTW, work towards a nuclear free Middle East? How the hell do you expect to do that when Iran is hell bent on having them AND using them against Israel as soon as they get one.

Maybe you think we should just sit by and watch Israel go up in smoke, but many of us don't. As far as the last war costing us the election that is just BS. The economy and wimpy assed RINOs, probably some of your buddies from the sound of you, cost us the election. The war had nothing to do with it.

"Israel fears US will dither while Iran goes nuclear"

When you consider that the only person with the guts to take on Iran since 1979 was Saddam Hussein, then I'd say these fears are not without merit.

My prediction, for what it's worth, is that Iran will indeed get the bomb(s), but will hold them in reserve. Just in case.

Don’t insult me by asking me if I heard about 9/11; I lost friends there. I was there. And it was Sunnis, not Shia, who did it. Not Shia (Iran). I thought that it was Iraq that did 9/11; you neo-cons are now moving the target?

Iran is not a threat to the United States. I’m not interested in Israel or Palestine; they are foreign countries. I am not willing to commit Americans for some ‘peace deal’ between 2 foreign states.

We are always waiting for those rogue nukes. First, the Iranians were to buy them from the Russians. Then, from break-away Soviet states. The Iranians fear Israel’s 200 nukes; OK, let those two foreign states fight it out. That keeps America and American troops out of it.

Look, Iraq was bereft of WMD that could be a threat to Ameria. Sorry. We lost the American Congress and Presidency due to that war. It was a mistake. We all will pay for it for a long time. Heck of a job George.

Iran is hell bent on ONE nuke? Israel has 200. A nuke free Middle East is in AMERICA’s interest.

Look; you want to fight for Israel, carry it’s water: no problem Go there. Keep Americans defending America, not foreign states.

If you are asking: Would I choose Israel over America’s interest, I’d say emphatically: NO. Any American would.

Not sure. Pretty sure that America is not a risk to Iran. And if they go at Israel, means nothing to America’s security.

Why would Iran nuke a country with 200 nukes with it’s one nuke. That’s stupid. And entirely implausible. Does Iran sell oil on world markets? Yes. Why? Because they clearly are worried about their domestic economy.

Israel is a foreign state; they can do what they need to do. But Americans should only defend America.

For a nuclear free Middle East.

If Iran should nuke Israel, what would be the effect on Iran's status in the Islamic world? In general and, in particular, the Persian Gulf area?

Recall that the Gulf is the source for most of the world's oil -- the reason why USA security policy has generally favored stability in the area. If Iran should suddenly dominate the Gulf and the oil-producers on its shores, how secure is the world's oil supply then?

Of course, an insecure oil supply would have no effect whatsoever on the USA. Inside 12 months, we'll be generating all our power with gerbils. And fuelling our vehicles with oat bran.

i don’t have a problem with your isolationist policies, but you should really readjust your moral compass, because your comparison between Israel and iran is quite revolting and i hope for your sake it is not a symptom of greater moral decay.

as for two of the points you made - iran didn’t spend billions of dollars to be able to make just one nuke.
once they have the capacity they’ll make much more than one.
(although one nuke shouldn’t be underestimated - it took only two to bring fanatical imperialist Japan to it’s knees).
another point you made that “A nuke free Middle East is in AMERICA’s interest” is incorrect.
a correct statement would be a nuke free arab/muslim world is in America’s interest, but either way it’s a contradiction to what you previously wrote that iran’s nuke program is not something America should be involved in.

They weren’t; and if Roosevelt had prepared us correctly Pearl Harbor would not have been, either.

Iran is not Nazi Germany. No matter how much the Neo Cons want to scream that from the top of the hills, Iran is most certainly not Nazi German, or the USSR or Imperial Japan. The trip of Saddam is Hitler or Ahmadenijad is Hitler is played. None of them are and we are the worse off for letting the Neo Cons pulling that fast one over one us.

You know who’s a threat: Hussein, Pelosi and Reid. Heck of a job, Bushie.

Where does Iran threaten the United States. Threatening foreign states doesn’t count, since they are not America.
