Mounting fears that the United States will do nothing to prevent Iran becoming a nuclear power will be outlined by Ehud Olmert, Israels prime minister, when he meets President George W Bush in Washington tomorrow.
Israel is concerned that Bush will pass the Iranian hot potato to Barack Obama, the president-elect, while the last chance of destroying Tehrans nuclear bomb-making programme may be passing.
A Pentagon source told The Sunday Times earlier this year that Bush had given Israel an amber light to carry on with military preparations to attack Iranian nuclear sites.
According to Israeli intelligence sources, Iran has sufficient nuclear material to make an atomic bomb. They are working on three programmes at once, said the sources. They are speeding up their centrifuges to enrich uranium, calibrating a warhead to fit their ballistic missiles and improving the range and accuracy of their ballistic missiles.

If national Israel is a historical "has been," then all of this is obviously wrong. However, the Bible says she has a future and world events will revolve around that tiny nation at the center of the earth. The world's focus already is upon Israel. God has preserved His people for a reason and it is not all bad. In spite of the fact that history is progressing along the lines of God's ordained pattern for Israel, we see the revival of replacement theology within conservative circles that will no doubt be used in the future to fuel the fires of anti-Semitism, as it has in the past. Your view of the future of national Israel is not just an academic exercise. I beg everyone influenced by this article to cast your allegiance with the literal Word of God lest we be found fighting against God and His Sovereign plan.
Israel need not “fear” the US will waver and waffle in the face of an Iranian nuclear threat. They may fully expect this to be the US response.
W isn’t going to do anything in the next 60 days or so, and Obama will EMBRACE the Iranians in welcoming them to the nuclear club of the world.

Remember the notion that Obama will be tested?
What does Rahm have to do with foreign policy?
The odds are in favor of Iran since the current composition
is composed of weak sister pacifists from the Clinton era.
You remember, the crew that would’nt fight back against
numerous terrorist operations.
Israel will have to lead.
Mr Bush doesn't have the guts to do what needs to be done. And as for incoming President Hussein,he...like most prominent RATS...supports Iran's developing a nuke because,to them,it's not fair that you have them and your neighbors don't.So,I'm sad to say, you're on your own regarding the prospect of the 9th Century knuckledragging mullahs in Tehran getting a nuke.
Sorry about that.
Fact is, Iran is not a threat to the United States and is arming itself against Israel, which has > 200 nuclear weapons. Not our fight.
With this incoming Administration, their fears are completely warranted. I just wonder what BS excuse the prez elect will feed us for not intervening.
So we do what? Wait until they are a threat to this continent? Sorry. Waiting until they have long range capabilities to act seems a little like waiting for a robbery to lock the front door.
Iran won’t ever be a threat to the United States, esp if we continue to work on missle shield defense. Come on, the ‘Iran is a threat to the United States’ is a neo-con fantasy, just like ‘Iraq has WMD.’
Let’s work for a nuke free Middle East before starting another war in the Middle East with a country that is no threat to the United States. If you want to know how well we fared with the last one, see Obama/Pelosi/Reid.
America’s interest is a nuclear free Middle East, I’ll agree on that point.
(Gay State Conservative shakes head in utter astonishment)
You are saying that Iran is a threat to America? What’s the evidence to that? Certainly not 9/11, a Sunni job. There’s not been any Iranian terrorism in the United States. They don’t have a forward capacity. Their economy is wheezing worse than ours.
Ya think?
I think we should have a very high bar before committing our military personnel to a campaign. And the ‘threat’ from Iran falls short of having young Americans - who volunteer to protect America - put their lives on the line.
Both sides should put a peace treaty on the table and we should reconcile. If they can't reconcile, then we should decide or walk away.
