Gallup: Palin top choice of Republicans to run in 2012
hotair.com ^ | November 22, 2008 | Allahpundit

They’re asking whether various candidates should run, not who the nominee should be, but it’s a fair proxy for enthusiasm. 67 percent say yes to the ‘Cuda, 62 to Romney, 61 to Huck. No one else cracks 50. Among conservative Republicans, it’s Palin 73, Huck 65, Mitt 64; among moderates and liberals, Mitt 59, Palin 48, Huck 46. Based on those numbers, it’s actually Romney who’s best positioned to unite the party.

The more I think about it, the more skeptical I am that all three will run. Even I’m not pessimistic enough to believe the recession will last until 2012, which means The One will inevitably be credited with having succeeded in his chief task by the time his term ends. Huckabee will run anyway because he’s hot to remake the party in his image, but Romney doesn’t strike me as eager for another expensive primary war just to be a sacrificial lamb in the general. My hunch is he’ll run only if Obama looks vulnerable and, even then, only if there are enough social cons running to split the base among them so that his strength with moderates is magnified. (It worked for McCain this year, didn’t it?) If he doesn’t run, I assume Pawlenty will throw in and try to capture those moderates with his “Sam’s Club” rhetoric. He won’t win, but he desperately needs a higher profile if he’s going to make a serious run in the future. (It worked for Huckabee this year, didn’t it?)

Jindal/Palin 2012 is a winner!

"God I hope Palin doesn’t run in 2012. Romney all the way! "

Welcome to FR. I'm wondering why we only hear such comments from people who have registered here in the last two months....

Oh...and Romney didn't go "all the way" in 08...did he? In fact, he wasn't even picked for the #2 spot, was he?

Palin, Jindal, Cantor, Pence, Steele, Sanford are going to be our top players.

Are any of those mentioned experts in economics more than Romney? Truthful answer please.

Jindal belongs in this short list. He just needs a little more time and exposure.

I agree that Palin will not (and probably should not) run in ‘12. She needs serious accomplishments, like the pipleline, before she is taken seriously by a lot of people. All 0bama has to do is not raise taxes and the economy will start to come around. He can pick up a cheap “save” in Iraq by signing a reduction in force agreement. If a new “surge” works in Afgan, he’ll get credit for that too.

The best thing for Palin to do would be to announce she is not running in ‘12. That would stop the msm from looking for the next turkeygate.

Nice dream, but I’m skeptical that there’ll even be an election in 2012.

That doesn't sound right.

If I can't have Fred I'd pick Palin but it's a long way to 2012.

Whatever the case — no more tired, old, palliative senators as Presidential candidates. Enough of this “It’s his turn at bat” routine. We NEVER win going down that path.

The MSM and the democrats will pick Huckabee to be the GOP nominee in ‘12.

Newt ‘I’ll run is you beg me, so please, beg me” Gingrich was threatening again this week to run.

He floats that rumor every few months.

Jump in quick as the MittBots turn this into another Palin-bashing-on-FreeRepublic thread!

Watch them do their best to savage and destroy a good conservative woman in an attempt to revive the corpse of the Romney candidacy.

George Soros is laughing his butt off!

After his foray into exorcism in college, I don't want Jindal near The Oval Office. Sure he might be brilliant, but it sounds as if he also has more than just a streak of the whack-job in him, and The GOP has already had its fair share of nut-jobs; BOTH Bushes, Mike Huckabee and John McCain to name but a few.

Lunatic antics like Jindal's might still play perfectly well in Louisiana, but I don't think he's ready for prime time in the rest of the country.

Romney is a failed Governor from Massachusetts.
Failed in the Economy.
Failed as a Conservative.

Gov. Palin was successful. And she has a beautiful
family and does not mistreat her animals like Romney.

Despite Mitt’s dubious credentials on Mass Taxes, he might be useful in the Treasury or Commerce department or as Veep. But we need an energizing Conservative leader on the top of the ticket. Romney doesn’t cut it for me. I’m not going to swallow another moderate media-favored pick for the GOP. We need our people out there.
