Theyre asking whether various candidates should run, not who the nominee should be, but its a fair proxy for enthusiasm. 67 percent say yes to the Cuda, 62 to Romney, 61 to Huck. No one else cracks 50. Among conservative Republicans, its Palin 73, Huck 65, Mitt 64; among moderates and liberals, Mitt 59, Palin 48, Huck 46. Based on those numbers, its actually Romney whos best positioned to unite the party.
The more I think about it, the more skeptical I am that all three will run. Even Im not pessimistic enough to believe the recession will last until 2012, which means The One will inevitably be credited with having succeeded in his chief task by the time his term ends. Huckabee will run anyway because hes hot to remake the party in his image, but Romney doesnt strike me as eager for another expensive primary war just to be a sacrificial lamb in the general. My hunch is hell run only if Obama looks vulnerable and, even then, only if there are enough social cons running to split the base among them so that his strength with moderates is magnified. (It worked for McCain this year, didnt it?) If he doesnt run, I assume Pawlenty will throw in and try to capture those moderates with his Sams Club rhetoric. He wont win, but he desperately needs a higher profile if hes going to make a serious run in the future. (It worked for Huckabee this year, didnt it?)

The only true difference between Reagan and Romney is that Reagan got divorced and Romney has not.
ROFLMAO
Stop it, you’re killing me...
Oh well, I tried to help, but every village has to have one I guess...
Ping to 262, the hits keep coming...
Ignoring for a moment that Pres. Reagan was a Patriot
and Romney is a backstabbing shapeshifter,
are you now insinuating Romney must cheat for equivalence?
or do you really share knowledge of his bed?
What a sick little, fixated, twisted mind you have.
End the permanent campaign.
First and foremost, I opposed McCain in the primaries, and did so because of his deserting conservatives on social issues just like Romney has.
Second, the question is this: what exact policies are you contending Romney wants to institute on a federal level, and what effect are you contending those policies would have on the national economy?
No but I believe in the ten commandments. Some people like yourself throw them out the window when it comes to politics. Now go away for the millionth time. I have to go take someone to the airport so I am not going to have time to listen to your dribble any longer. Go to bed will ya and have a nice Sunday. Go to confession as you need it badly. I would hate for you to die and not have your sins forgiven.
Correcting your false witness against Gov Palin
or her children is not a sin.
And focusing attention upon American heroes,
and putting a little light upon its knaves and Myths,
are not sins, either.
So take your little thoughts, your ad hominems,
your rantings against Gov. Palin and Pres. Reagan,
and go hide at the airport.
No. I am recommending that conservatives not drool over Sarah Palin like 13 year old schoolboys just because they have a crush on her. The Presindency is not a 7th Grade Class President election where you vote for the cutest girl in your class because she's the cutest girl in your class.
Before Sarah Palin was ever picked by John McCain, I had a conversation with a friend about the possible VP candidates that McCain might consider. I mentioned a conservative, female Governor of Alaska that had been Governor of Alaska, a state with less than one third the population of Dade County, Florida, since only December of 2006. Before that, she had been a Mayor of a very small town.
I said to my friend that the name was being bounced around because she was conservative and, most importantly, female. I then predicted she would not be picked as, with her extremely meager experience, she was obviously an Identity Politics/Affirmative Action red herring. Republicans don't play that game.
Well, McCain said, "Find me a conservative, female Governor as my VP running mate" and there we were, up to our eyeballs in the Identity Politics/Affirmative Action game.
Palin's subsequent performance on the Katie Couric interviews showed that Palin was just not ready for prime time. Any regular poster on FR could have rattled off a half dozen newspapers we regularly read articles from on FR.
My friend's daughter, raised in a family that has NEVER voted Democrat in a Presidential election and who is still depressed about Obama's election called her mother up after the Katie Couric interview and said, "Mom, she terrible. Just terrible!"
Sarah Palin's performance on that YouTube video is not a "media portrayal". It is a self-infliction shotgun blast to her on foot.
If Sarah Palin were "George Palin", the Governor of Alaska for less than two years and previously Mayor of a town of less that 7,000 people at the time he was Mayor, would conservatives have drooled over such a pick when it was made?
No. We would be asking WTF John McCain was smoking.
IMO, sometimes on this forum, and others, we run into true wackos. I saw one tonight and so did you.
Palin for pres, you betcha
I know I did my part defending her. She’s a wonderful, charming person and a very tough fighter. She certainly didn’t deserve those disgusting attacks by the media and her own campaign staff. She’ll be a great fund raiser or maybe she’ll have a successful TV show of her own.
But she’s like Hannity. Another great person who just doesn’t have what it takes to be prez. That’s not his role in life, it’s not my role in life, we accept it but we have to accept that it’s not for her either.
If Sarah Palin were “George Palin”, the Governor of Alaska for less than two years and previously Mayor of a town of less that 7,000 people at the time he was Mayor, would conservatives have drooled over such a pick when it was made?
well...they did pick George W Bush.
No. It was not her campaign staff.
It was the proObama-RomneyBOTs who lost this Election.
whoever did it, we know they were republicans and that hurts.
hahahahahahaha
Oh...you were serious.
Dang!
We got at LEAST two years to SLOWLY get the unknowing to accept Mitt in 2012.
Why are we being SO aggressive SO early???
