I want a doctor who’s a good doctor. That is, I want good people with keen minds to rise to the top in the conservative movement. I’m somewhat less picky about whether they’re Ivy League/Seven Sisters or “state school” alums or somewhere in between, and even less about whether they go to all the right parties with all the right people. Particularly based on recent performance (yes, Christo Buckley, this means you), I'm deeply uncomfortable with the prospect of that group turning into “Oh, look, Buffy! A conservative movement for us!”

That would be as weird as supporting chronic betrayer of conservatives John McCain, or endlessly equivocating abortion advocate Fred Thompson, or drag queen abortion advocate Rudy Giuliani, the other three leading contenders for the GOP Presidential nomination in 2008.

Keep in mind that they tried to diminish and destroy Elvis at the outset but, like Sarah, too many people had already experienced something and WOULD NOT be denied.
