A new satellite predicts at least 23 years of global cooling
Coeur d'Alene Press ^ | Nov 16, 2008 | Cliff Harris

Several Canadian environmental scientists agree that the new Jason satellite indicates at least a 23-year cycle of global cooling ahead. Count me in!

This oceanographic satellite shows a much larger than normal persistent Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO). Cooler PDO phases usually last 21 to 25 years, so we should be quite chilly as a planet until at least 2030, maybe longer.

Remember, I have another cycle of intense global warming, as I mentioned at our March 2, 2007 climate seminar at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, due by 2031 to 2038, when all of my major cycles 'collide in chaos.'

These alternating natural climatic cycles defy the so-called "climate consensus" that human-emitted carbon dioxide was responsible totally for the recent cycle of global warming that began in the late 1970s and peaked in 1998.

The Earth's previous warming phase from 1915 through 1939, which peaked in 1936 during the infamous Dust Bowl Days, was almost as warm as the recent cycle of global warming. Yes, I said, global warming. I'm a firm believer in frequent climate changes. I also favor cutting down sharply on air pollution, particularly in the urban 'heat islands.'

The last cooler cycle of global temperatures occurred from late 1939 to early 1976, peaking (or bottoming) in 1973. The harsh winters during World War II helped the U.S. and its allies defeat the Germans and later assisted our G.I.s in the Korean War due to extremely heavy snows and subzero temperatures north of the 38th Parallel.

In the past 10 years, especially the past couple of years, the Earth's climate has begun to cool, even though CO2 emissions have soared on a worldwide scale. How many years of declining temperatures will it take to finally break up Al Gore's 'global warming consensus'? Only time will tell -- probably when all the money runs out.

NORTH IDAHO LONG-RANGE WEATHER OUTLOOK AND REVIEW

As we expected, a parade of Pacific storms marched across North Idaho and the rest of the Inland Empire during the first 13 days of this November.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, a whopping 2.49 inches of precipitation had been gauged this month compared to just 0.57 inches in all of October and only 1.48 inches total since late August. A record 0.83 inches fell Nov. 7, breaking the record rainfall total for the date of .81 inches in 1980.

The normal rainfall during an entire November is 2.97 inches, when averaged over the past 113 years of daily weather record-keeping that began in 1895. In November 2007, we gauged 2.61 inches of moisture at my station on Player Drive in the northwestern corner of Coeur d'Alene, along with a slightly below normal 6.3 inches of snow, all of which fell after Thanksgiving.

But, as I stated last week, between the end of November 2007 and the end of the snowfall season on June 30, 2008, we received an all-time record 172.9 inches of snow in town, some four feet more than the previous record of 124.2 inches in 1915-16, nearly a century ago.

I'm still predicting that our first measurable snowfall of the 2008-09 season will arrive in the lowlands of North Idaho in the next 14 days or so extending through the Thanksgiving holiday period. This is probably a 'sure bet,' as I'll be on the road visiting my 92-year-old mother in Port Angeles, Wash., this Thanksgiving.

Our normal snowfall in Coeur d'Alene is 66.7 inches. By mid-January of 2009, I see approximately 50 inches of total seasonal snowfall in Coeur d'Alene with another 30 inches being gauged during the second half of the winter, far less than in 2007-08, for a June 30 total of nearly 80 inches, less than half the astounding total of last winter.

Temperatures should be colder, however, this winter with subzero readings expected around the January 11-18 full moon cycle, as a huge Arctic high pressure ridge moves in from the north into North Idaho and the surrounding regions of the Northwest.

I'm still predicting at least a 70 percent chance of a brilliant White Christmas in North Idaho, considerably higher probabilities than usual for the season.

One last note, I've received numerous phone calls and e-mails from those on fixed incomes, particularly the elderly, on how to possibly save on their heating bills this expected colder than normal winter season.

For many who have seen their stock portfolios go up in smoke recently, it may be the choice of heating or eating in the months ahead. A Coeur d'Alene Press article on Friday predicted higher drug costs and insurance premiums as well in 2009.

The Dow Jones dipped early last Thursday before recovering from 7,965.42, barely above the Oct. 10 trading low of 7,882.51. Analysts said that investors had lost "more than a trillion dollars" in the three-day period alone from Nov. 11-13.

According to my friend, Mark Joseph of Coeur d'Alene Sheet Metal and Heating, "one can lose as much as 50 percent of their heat through their roof, if they don't have adequate insulation values and a properly maintained heating system." Mark is my personal energy consultant. He has saved me big bucks over the years.

The time is act is now...before the cold weather sets in. One could literally save hundreds of dollars in heating costs over the winter with a sound energy program. Tough times like these require both conservation and frugality.

Yeah. Just ask the veterans of the Ardennes Forest and the ChoSen Reservoir how much the frigid cold helped them.

If the earth is starting a true cooling cycle, this could really be serious in such things as food production. It may require some real capitalism to overcome.

I am curious as to how th gas bags will alter their speeches to say it's all the fault of humans. That should prove interesting.

Don’t forget to ask Napoleon and Washington. Both live during the last “Little Ice Age”. One of them was destroyed by it.

It has snowed here in Western NC three times, with another coming Tuesday. First snow in October since 2000. We did not even need a satellite to figure that out.

Mr. Gore, after a while, you’ll be begging for global warming. Global warming and cooling are the very essance of CLIMATE. It’s been going on for millions of years, long before there were SUV’s!!!

We can adapt to the warming, but cooling is another creature indeed. A much bigger challenge.

I guess I’ll pop open some CFC canisters or switch to a gas lawn mower. Cheers!!!

Unfortunately it could snow every July and August in Miami for a decade and the GW cultists will still believe they are right.

Take your pick. They'll say it's still the effect of anthropogenic global warming or Bush's fault.

The article said — “The Earth’s previous warming phase from 1915 through 1939, which peaked in 1936 during the infamous Dust Bowl Days, was almost as warm as the recent cycle of global warming. Yes, I said, global warming. I’m a firm believer in frequent climate changes. I also favor cutting down sharply on air pollution, particularly in the urban ‘heat islands.’ “

Yes..., accept “Global Warming” as a reality — but not — AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming), because that’s not true.

Don’t get caught into the “side-alley” of Global Warming, but put your emphasis on Anthropogenic Global Warming as the center of your arguments. You can avoid a lot of hassles and from being backed into corners and down dark alleys, that way...

Follow the pathway to the “Maunder Minimum” (having to do with sunspots) and the Medieval Warm Period as your argument for things related to Global Warming (which is true), but *not* Anthropogenic Global Warming (which is not true)....

What happened to the Vikings when they set up villages and farmed in Greenland. During that period of time, did Holland flood (when it was *warmer*)?? Look into that...

Count me out!
We could use some of that global warming here, broke freezing once here this week.
Got home from work @ 5:00 and it was 22 degrees.

You said — “Unfortunately it could snow every July and August in Miami for a decade and the GW cultists will still believe they are right.”

Start distinguishing between GW and AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming). GW is true; AGW is not true.

So, “Dutch Boy” — what happened in Holland, when the Vikings farmed in Greenland and the ice wasn’t there like it is now? Did Holland flood??

That’s a good pathway to go down to shake them out of their thinking...

They now say "CLIMATE CHANGE" so that any weather out of the norm can be blamed on man changing the environment.

As a concerned citizen of the world, should I take immediate measures to increase my carbon footprint to encourage a little warming?

They changed the name of the scam to “climate change” and CO2.

If you really had global warming you could shoot dust or sulfur in the air too cool things off or even satllites with mirrors to beam sunlight back into space. Not sure what you do to make it warmer if it is getting colder. Satellites to beamn more sunlight sounds dangerous.

This is a huge scam for cap and trade because the exchange to trade CO 2 is in...Chicago like the other scammers at the CBOE and CME.

At this point, it would be the patriotic thing to do. We must do everything we can to save the planet from glaciers invading the tropics.
