In October 2007, my dear friend Heather was diagnosed with cancer, a large sarcoma in her leg. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation, had that tumor removed in January of this year. At that time, her doctors were fairly optimistic regarding her prognosis, but the cancer metastasized to her lungs. She had surgery to remove the tumors in her lungs in August, and was recovering well until last month. I previously posted a prayer thread about Heather here.
The cancer is back again, this time on her spine, in her abdomen, and again in her lungs. It is inoperable. She started a clinical trial last week, but the tumors in her lungs are very aggressive, and she having a lot of trouble breathing. Her prognosis is very grim. She's in the hospital, and I'm headed to Chicago to see her tomorrow.
Heather has been so brave up to this point, but now is very scared, for herself, as well as for her young daughter Eileen. She is 36 years old, and told me very frankly today that she's not ready to die. Eileen is 9, she needs her mother tremendously, and her father ill-equipped to raise her on his own.
Thanks to all you who have prayed for Heather to this point. Please continue to pray with me for Heather, Eileen, her family, her doctors, and all us who care about her. I'm not sure what to pray for--strength and comfort, or simply a miracle. Heather and I have been friends for 30 years and the thought of losing her is nearly inconceivable to me.
