Pakistan: "Unknown miscreants" destroy girls' school

Maybe they were Buddhists? Disgruntled nuns? At any rate, two women were also killed during clashes -- though none were sprayed in the face with acid, this time.

"Pakistan: Girls school destroyed by militants," from AKI, November 20 (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):

Mingora, 20 Nov. (AKI/DAWN) - Four militants and two women were killed and several others sustained injuries while a girls’ school was destroyed in Pakistan. The school was located in the area of Bar Bandai in the volatile Swat valley.

Military sources said the security forces pounded militant hideouts killing four and injuring several others on Wednesday in the ongoing search operation in the restive Swat region.

Curfew was imposed in the troubled areas of Kabal tehsil.

Two women were killed and four combatants were injured as some misfired shells fell on their houses in Khwazahkela tehsil.

The government girls’ primary school was destroyed by unknown miscreants by planting explosives in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The four-room school building was completely destroyed and its furniture and records were damaged in the explosion.

Sorry, Cindy, but where is Ernest? He usually PINGS! me to these threads! I haven't heard from him since the election, so I'm a bit worried.

Unfortunately, these stories are much too common in Pakistan. Pakis place not much value on women OR education-—that's from our former Paki exchange student.

I am currently reading “Three cups of tea” which is about an American climber turned charitable activist for schools in the mountainous area in Pakistan. It discuss the educational problems in the area from both the government, and the extremist Muslims. Fortunately most of the Muslims in the area are pro schools for girls but the ones who aren't can create a lot of problems. I'll have to look this area up..I bet this guy who is still building schools is pretty worried right now.
