Burt Prelutsky: Does the GOP Have a Future?
Townhall.com ^ | November 21, 2008 | Burt Prelutsky

I have no way of knowing whether the Republican party will go the way of the Whigs, the Bull Moose and the dodo bird. But perhaps it should. After all, when they held control of the House, the Senate and the Oval Office, for the first six years of President Bush’s administration, they were inept, lazy and corrupt. In other words, they behaved just like Democrats.

I seriously wonder if the republican party shouldn’t be shut down, and reform into a new conservative party.

Sure - just push the RINOs back to the Dems where they came from after the Barking Moonbats (BM for short) took over that party. Then we'll have two adult political parties again.

The Republican Party isn’t in danger of going the way of the Whigs.

Most Americans pay little if any attention to politics. We have become a very selfish country in some ways and many people vote based on what party they think will magically solve all their personal problems.

Once we have a few years of Democratic rule, the public will be turning once again to Republicans to solve their problems.

We need to work on making sure we articulate conservative solutions to these problems the next time the public wants our party to govern.

No.

I fear that our days of electing people are over.

Good God, I guess intestinal fortitude is what has no future.

The party isn't what we want it to be. I guess our job should be to change it to what it should be, but first we'll have to go through endless "Is it OVER??? Is Obama in forever?!?!?!" silliness.

There is part of me that sees the dumb Liberalization of America: where people watch enough TV to accept it as legitimate and cool. These people work, they vote and never would they pass over a good deal like free government money. That free money can be used to buy more porno, when times are tough or just about anytime. If Paris Hilton is into porno why not them, huh? Even if they don't have Paris Hilton's cash. So are they going to vote for a corpse like McCain, who is still warm enough to talk -- but nobody know what he said -- or are they going to vote for the sexy black man who reminds them of Densil Washington? Duh! If they can pull themselves away from the TV they'll vote for Obama rather than that tight ass McCain who reminds them old man Lebowski or worse. “That Bush” they say, “started a war and everybody is against him, even Saddam and Madonna, so something is wrong with him and his stupid religion. Nobody goes to church on TV, so there's got to be something to it.”

You have a very good point. But they (Republicans) have to be sexy problem solvers or they are not problem solvers.

The Republican Party has to start focusing on domestic matters.

It doesn’t work to just say that the other guy is a socialist. Republicans have to successfully communicate what they want to do to improve the economy, how they expect those things to work, and what the results will be in a clear 1-2-3 delineation.

That, plus standing strong on social issues, and really working to have most of what is currently controlled by government (like schools) shifted into the private sector can revive the Republican Party yet.

Sorry, but Democrats are not inept and lazy. They are always working toward and come up with another "crisis" or "initiatives" or other ways to transfer more power and money from people to government or entrenched Democratic institutions.

It's the Republicans who are usually inept and lazy, at least in the sense of acquiring and/or maintaining political gains even when they have clear examples of how that's been done, which rightly earned them a moniker Stupid Party. Unfortunately, they also have become either corrupt or primarily associated with corruption, and didn't bother to learn their lesson after 2006 (because they are inept and lazy) until it became too late.

And from the looks of it, the powers that be at GOP still haven't understood what hit them. They seem to care more about arranging their own power-chairs within GOP's "Titanic", than they care for getting real power on the ship of state.

And those were the high points.

Of course we do. In 2002, Democrats had a death notice and a short six years later they are healthy as can be. We could be very well a majority easily is six to ten years.
