Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) could be ripe for a challenge for his seat in 2010, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
Only 36 percent of voters in the survey said Martinez deserves a second term. More voters 38 percent say that he doesnt, and 26 percent are not sure. When asked whom they would vote for if the election were held today, 40 percent said they would support the Democratic candidate and 36 percent said they would back Martinez.

Where is Katherine Harris these days? I would love to see her take on Martinez and she would have my support from day one!
I was thinking about running against him
Re: Ficklin, Martinez is not typical of the Cuban community. He is soft on everything and a complete RINO. I will work against him in the primary.
All anybody needs to know about that jerk, is that he was largely responsible for handing us McCain. His plaintive efforts in South Florida went along way (along with the repellant Huckabee’s hanging on) to wiping out the fund raising for Romney, Giuliani, and Thompson, leaving only McCain standing after the FL GOP primary. No way McCain would have won FL, without Martinez.
I could go on about specific policies, far beyond immigration, but all you have to know about him is, just think Lindsey Graham, then add ignorance about any significant issue. The man’s a Bush wind-up doll and has never had an original thought. I won’t work for him, won’t contribute to him, and won’t vote for him.
And, oh yeah, Ficklin? I was born in Ecuador, so sell your racist crap somewhere else.
If Martinez can’t be defeated in the primary, I would rather deal with a straight up crooked Marxist any day, than a RINO traitor.
Thank you for your time and comments.
The advantage of carrying two passports is that I can cross to the other side and no one can call me an anti latin/bigot. (I love it.)
I have put on my Latin (Panamanian) hat and am calling Martinez a stupid self-serving crooked Latin. Go back to Cuba, pendejo maricon. (That is how we Latins express our anger.)
I now have put on my American hat.
I feel so much better.
Good information. Now I disapprove of Martinez even more. I hope that’s ok with race focused F*cklin.
She would lose , just as she did in ‘06 . She should have stayed in that House seat .
“...he was largely responsible for handing us McCain.”
How about “shoving him down our throats?”
An incumbent candidate getting 36% against an unnamed candidate of the other party is a dead duck. Anything under 50% is in the danger zone.
Probably working in the private sector. The GOP deep-sixed her in 2006, didn't even lift a finger to help her.
Not me . If Martinez in not defeated in the primary , I will support him . He’s not a full RINO and he is pro- Second Amendment . We can’t afford to lose any more pro-gun Senate seats .
“The GOP deep-sixed her in 2006, didn’t even lift a finger to help her.”
Bush deep-sixed her.
I remember clearly, like Sarah, she was her own person and a conservative. She had her own views, which were not in line with the Bush’s socialistic views. Therefore, he did not back her and deep-sixed her. I am still angry about that.
Maybe Sarah will have a good place for her when Sarah becomes President Palin 45.
Man!!! That sounds like a bullet. Good.
I would stay home rather than vote for the RINO Martinez. I would push for Adam Putnam, a real Conservative.
If you want your country back, you had better make damn sure that someone in the Republican Party will take his/her seat before voting out all RINOS. Take a page from the party that is in power. They make damn sure that their party's candidates WIN. Team work, not taking your ball and going home if you can not get everything you want. If the Party is not united you can kiss any future power goodbye.
You have a strange recollection. A liberal judge ordered that district to be more Democrat after we drew the lines to protect Bonilla.
Great idea. Instead of running the RINO Martinez, let’s run one of the most unpopular ex-politicians in the state of FL, all but assuring a solid loss of yet another Republican seat.
You obviously don’t know what the heck you are talking about.
See post #35. Bonilla lost to a moonbat democrat former congressman (who lost a renomination in a neighboring district) because a pinko judge decreed a leftist chunck of San Antonio had to be stuck in the district.
We have no big name Republican (who is not a Rino) to run against Martinez here in Florida but I do know that we have to get rid of him. I wish we could also get rid of our twit Democrat Senator along with Martinez. I liked Katherine Harris & wish she had the backing from Jeb Bush etc. but maybe she will consider a run for Senator in 2010. I consider Crist another Rino & hope we have a true Republican Gov. next time.
Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are both Florida residents and both would be shoo-ins to win the primary and General Election, as well.
Limbaugh would win with 55 percent of the vote, and Ann Coulter would also easily win the general election.
Draft Coulter
Draft Limbaugh (for possible Governor of Florida)
Katherine would need to step up her public profile if she was to try again. The RATs damaged her pretty good and she would be quite the long shot. The only way I see her winning the general is if the country is horrified with what the RATs have done in 2009. Without an external threat, I think they will still be handing out goodies and people won't be mad enough yet to usher back in the GOP. The RATs will still be able to blame Bush for the domestic mess in 2010, much less so in 2012.
All bets are off if there is a terrorist attack in CONUS or someone gobbles up a democracy.
