A new survey finds a majority of science professors at Texas' public and private universities are against a state policy requiring weaknesses in the theory of evolution be covered in public school science classes.
The study by the progressive group Texas Freedom Network surveyed 464 university biologists and anthropologists with the help of a sociology professor at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The Dallas Morning News reports 95% said schools should teach "just evolution" in covering the origins of life on earth. The rest said children should learn both evolution and the creationist theory called "intelligent design."
Survey results were released ahead of tomorrow's state Board of Education public hearing on new science curriculum standards.
A main topic of discussion is expected to be how teachers should treat Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
New science curriculum standards for Texas public school students will be voted on early next year in what is expected to be a close vote by the state Board of Education.

"Progressive" and "Freedom" are not compatible these days. Progressive means restricting freedom. Just look at today's political progressives; they're the most anti-Constitutional people in power today.
All that aside - theory is science and should be taught as such. Creationsim is belief - faith should be held in the heart, the home and the church.

Rejecting God and Creationism has become the “mark of the beast” for getting an education.
Last night I watched the DVD “Expelled” starring Ben Stein about the vicious treatment of scientists that dare teach about the possibility of intelligent design. I HIGHLY encourage everyone to watch the movie.
It was quite hilarious for Ben Stein to match wits with a scientist that said that science couldn’t prove the origin of life. The scientist then went on to say that he “believes” crystals, or another highly intelligent being (aliens) started life.
Yep, spend an hour or two doing that, and have their "teachers" spend 14,000 seat hours teaching them that their faith is false.

Your acceptance is not required. Science will get along just fine in spite of your sullen disbelief.
But there is fine evidence for "macroevolution" out there. There are several known examples of what are called ring species.
Ring species provide unusual and valuable situations in which we can observe two species and the intermediate forms connecting them. In a ring species:
- A ring of populations encircles an area of unsuitable habitat.
- At one location in the ring of populations, two distinct forms coexist without interbreeding, and hence are different species.
- Around the rest of the ring, the traits of one of these species change gradually, through intermediate populations, into the traits of the second species.
A ring species, therefore, is a ring of populations in which there is only one place where two distinct species meet. Ernst Mayr called ring species "the perfect demonstration of speciation" because they show a range of intermediate forms between two species. They allow us to use variation in space to infer how changes occurred over time. This approach is especially powerful when we can reconstruct the biogeographical history of a ring species, as has been done in two cases. Source
ID is not science. Plain and simple, not science.

I’m always disappointed in these results.
We’re lectured about “science” regarding the origins of mankind which are sketchy under the best scientific hypothesis yet with embriology and neonatology and the 3D and now ever 4D of a fetus (which is just a technical term - it’s a developing baby with brainwaves by 21 days) moving and smiling and even burping with the real time results in plain sight and the same group will tell us “that don’t prove nuttin.”
So, remember that science is bastardized just like our public radio and public schools. Science shouldn’t use hypothesis for public policy, science needs to be able to prove it.
And the images on the screen prove it very clearly.
Of course, it’s probably irrelevant because our society is in an irreversible decline and there’s nothing we can do.
The point behind this is that if the Texas legislature demands that I.D. or creationism be taught; those chosen to carry out the instruction (science teachers) are not a sympathetic audience to the unscientific claims of I.D. or the establishment of religion that teaching creationism would entail.
In other words, science teachers want science to be taught in science class.
World shaking outcome I know, but there you have it.
The dumbing down of America, including its scientists, proceeds apace.
It is not that Evolution should not be taught in Science class, it is the idea that the flaws in the theory should NOT be offered to the students as well.
How are students supposed to use their own senses to decide whether or not Evolution is complete, whole, and explains everything in toto...err...wait a minute, I guess the students should check their critical thinking skills at the door...which is the point isn’t it?
Cool, “expelled” is on the must watch list, along with IOUSA, right now there are some good film offerings to enjoy.
