Persons of the liberal persuasion have ALWAYS regarded a period of crisis as opportunities for expanding and consolidating their influence. Even if they have to provoke the crisis.
Wartime? Excellent opportunity to suspend the usual rules of civil conduct and maintain an iron hand on the civilian population. Financial meltdown? Grab all the credit markets and realign them to conform to social engineering goals. Natural disaster? Start agitating and run about pointing fingers if the aid does not arrive on time, accusing the opponents of your point of view of being heartless and incompetent to govern and administer.
EVERYTHING is an opportunity, except when it is a result of your incompetence or bad judgment. Then it is imperative to hunt up somebody else and make that person the scapegoat.

Rahm Emanuel has dual citizenship with Israel. He went there to serve during the first gulf war (but he says it was not in uniform). See his wikipedia entry, he doesn’t deny it
Rahm Emanuel holds both an Israeli citizenship and a US citizenship. Apparently this is not all that uncommon among the sons and daughters of the liberators of of Israel from the clutches of the Palestinians.

I’m suspicious of him and everything he says. We all know those friendly-sounding terms (like “fairness”) are code words for the wrong policies. But, my mouth really dropped when he said “one of the five reforms” would be “cost control” in healthcare.
