Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.

But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.

“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

LOL. What a pretentious ass. In the mean time, the people will decide, and I think it’s pretty clear at this point in the game that it’s hers for the taking.

I had the feeling Newt fled the battlefield in 1998.

He's been too cozy with the Clintons and his affinity for the "global warming" fascist fantasy shows he's a fool.

His casting aspersions on Sarah Palin is pompous overreaching.

He's not some laurel-wreathed togaed genius on Mount Olympus; he's just another greasy Republican patrician.

Sarah Palin ignited widespread excitement which the real people of America aren't going to cede because elites fart.

McCain's maverick zeppelin really burst into bright orange flame when he sailed off to Foggy Bottom to be Just Another Beltway Big Government Bozo.

Newt Gingrich, gasbag; Sarah Palin, $40 billion gas pipeline.

Gee, what a choice.

and I hate to say it, but she is not making friends among other Republican governors or so it seems....

What we're seeing now is a GOP power-grab. Since the governors are the best source for top-elected talent, it's a catfight between Rick Perry, Charlie Crist, and Tim Pawlenty. Bobby Jindal is quietly making a name for himself. And unfortunately for Palin, she can't breath without anyone with a camera, an office, or an agenda from taking a swipe at her. Since Newt is backing Michael Steele for GOP Chair, it lends one to think Newt is considering a 2012 run. Where I think he's unelectable because of his personal baggage, Palin would be his largest threat.

Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader

Of course Palin won't be the future GOP leader. There's a reason that George W. Bush pushed for amnesty and a policy of appeasement when it came to the illegal hordes. The future GOP leader will be this man, he of half-Mexican descent:

His name is George P. Bush.

Bushes only win elections on the coattails of conservatives or pretending to be one themselves. George P. Bush will be granted no such courtesy. We’re 0 for 2 with that family.

I don’t think there is only ONE de facto leader right now but it’s ridiculous for Gingrich to pretend that Governor Palin is just one of 20 or 30. She’s clearly been thrust into the top echelon by being a national nominee who has energized a lot of the “base” and there is no other past P or VP nominee that will even be in contention for 2012, so it’s absurd to say she’s only one of 30.

Otoh, I agree that she must prove herself further, continue to govern well, develop more depth and substance in her speeches and policy proposals etc. I don’t take her as an automatic P. nominee for 2012 but I am a strong admirer of hers and I think it’s really hers to lose, i.e., there is a clear path for her to the nomination but it’s full of pitfalls and jealous rivals, and she must work very very hard, become a deeper voice for the Reagan-Thatcher conservative movement, etc.

Really, I don’t want another Bush anywhere near the WH unless one turns out to be a true Reagan conservative, and we haven’t seen any prospects of that....

But George P. Bush might turn out to be a potential Rep. or Governor, etc. Right now I really don’t even know what his politics might be, though.

The Title is misleading.

Bolton wrote Gingrich said Palin will not be leader but he quotes Gingrich as not saying that.

Bolton appears to be an anti-Palin hack.

Interesting that a certain class of journalists are striving to extinguish the election afterglow and future burgeoning of Governor Palin.

I could care less about who someone's ancestors were. He is an American and that is all I care about.

The citizens of the state of Alaska owns those resources. in essence this is royalties paid to each citizen of the state each year. The reason one of the Eskimo tribes has a lawsuit against Shell (currently sits for second year in 9th Circuit) is when they drill off the Alaska coast they do not have to pay these royalties and this particular tribe is trying to change that and get $ from Shell from this offshore lease.

As I understand this from my half-year Alaska neighbors and from how Palin explained it (multiple times) this was part of the agreement when Alaska joined the Union, that we and their citizens would benefit from the states natural resources. Perhaps if some other states shared their natural resources back to the citizens of that state people would be more inclined to allow drilling here at home and would shut down the enviros.

She’s not, no conservative would believe in redistribution of taxes, but you labeled her a republican amount republicans.

I think you mean't Redistribution of Wealth, right?

Exactly the opposite is happening in Alaska.

A company is being asked to pay taxes, fees, whatever you like for the usage of a resource owned by the people of Alaska. Those fees, for the most part, are then passed on to the owners of those resources, once again the people of Alaska.

I have also noticed you have a real dislike for Palin.

Besides this irrational reason you have posited, what real reason can you give for disliking her and is there any other reason you feel she is not a conservative?

When you start collecting taxes and handing out checks to individuals that is redistrtionbution. You know spreading the wealth around.

Not the same thing.

Normal Redistribution takes from those that have earned it and gives it to those that have not earned it.

The best analogy for this situation is that we have somebody who owns a resource (Citizens of Alaska) and is willing to lease it to somebody else (Oil Companies) to use it.

The end result is that ALL of the citizens of Alaska regardless of their wealth status reap the benefits.

You are wrongly categorizing this situation.

“The people of Alaska own the oil the oil companies are pumping. That is rich, then why do they need congress approval to drill more wells. LOL”

Because that oil is, in SOME parts of the state of Alaska, under Federal lands. ANWR, for example, is a piece of land under Federal control (which it probably should never have been). A large problem in Alaska is that the Feds have taken over SO much of the state.

Tell ya what...you check out the Alaska Constitution and then come back and tell us who share the ownership those oil and gas reserves.

Hint:

The marxist ideology of redistribution of wealth has nothing to do with paying profits to the “true owners”.

Not sure what Newt has to say on the subject. He might want to check with the voters.

Takes should be collected by government and spent by government...

...for the purpose of running the government. That sure doesn't explain the Department of Education, for starters.

You know the south tried to modified the state agreements with the federal government, after the fact, we ran out of bullets. The silly little constitution amendment you are talking about was after the fact and back dated.

A pudgy old adulterer who buys into global warming hysteria, at that.

I'd rather not see Palin as the RNC chair, actually. I see it harming her career more than helping it. She can rally the grassroots troops while governing Alaska just fine. As for who should be RNC chair...I just don't know.
