Gay marriage proponents protest in front of Mormon church [Orange County, CA]

Demonstrators gathered in front of a Mormon temple in Newport Beach on Sunday to protest passage of Proposition 8. They were targeting the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, many members of which poured money into the campaign for passage of the proposition.

"We're not asking churches to sanctify marriages," said Ron Fichter of Laguna Beach. "To me it's just basic human rights."

...

The approximately 300 protesters, according to police estimates, carried signs and chanted sayings while walking along the public sidewalks in front of the Newport Beach stake of the church. The demonstration began about 10 a.m. and lasted until about 1 p.m., police said. Passage of the ballot measure effectively reversed a California Supreme Court ruling this year that declared same-sex marriage to be a constitutional right.

"Everyone in the United States has a legal right to protest, which we support fully," said Waterford Clayton, president of the Newport Beach stake. "This is not about sexual preference. This is about the moral standing of marriage."

Clayton acknowledged that members of the church supported passage of Prop. 8 and that the church was "a very identifiable target."

Clayton said the church is not against gays, and that many gays take part in the church.

"When churches feel that something that affects society as moral questions do, churches will and should take a stand," said Clayton. "Our desire is that we disagree with civility and have a conversation."

"We're not asking churches to sanctify marriages," said Ron Fichter

More lies. The courts will force churches in CA to recognize same sex "marriages", just as they have in other states.

“To me it’s just basic human rights.”

Yeah, sure. Like freedom of religion and freedom to vote your conscience.

Excellent point. These gay cowards are just that — typical cowardly liberals, always hiding behind something, like PC crap....they really are disgusting and as they keep this up, respect for them, from the normal community, continues to nose dive.

They are just riding the present wave of radical liberal insanity for all they can milk out of it — without any consideration for the consequences — typical liberals.

Gays are just ticked because polygamy is making up for their lack of reproduction.

what the cowards target Mormons again but not the Latino , black and muslims areas

Islam calls for death to them
Blacks came out in droves and sent the vote over the top
The Chinese voted for normal marriage
half of whites did and many are not even religious
they complain about money from Utah and yet they received money , millions of it from around the country

They really are such babies
The people have spoken, get used to it or move to MA,CT where it was forced on the people.

a year ago they said that they should not have a federal amendment and now states have stopped activist judges they now say the people do not have a right to vote

Well newsflash for them that is how things work here i this country the people vote and people gave their life for us to vote so maybe those in power like the LA mayor needs to remember every vote counts.

funny how the Dems shout that when it suits them

LOL - Funny picture, the guy with the sign saying to put the Bible down and read the Constitution; he probably has no idea of Amendments 9 & 10.

For that matter has he perhaps read the preamble? What about the Declaration of Independence?

It’s ironic that the hatred that the gay activists talk about is all coming from their side of the debate.

Mormons and other religions do not preach hatred of homosexuals.

There were no marches or intimidating mobs marching into The Castro when the Supreme Court ruled for same-sex marriage. As shocking as the ruling was to many, those opposed did not intimidate and make a spectacle of themeselves.

There were no protesters on hand when the first same-sex marriages took place.

There were no protesters in 2004 when Mayor Newsom decided he could ignore state marriage laws and marry homoseuxals.

ALL of the hatred and animosity is coming from the gay activist side.

We live in Orwell’s 1984 in some ways. Up is down, white is black, those expressing hate are actually urging tolerance.................

Where exactly in the Constitution did the founding fathers list a right to homosexual marriage?

I would be happy to read that part if the liberals can point out where it is. I have read the Constitution and don’t recall anything about marriage at all.

in that photo one says read the constitution

have they this really stupid

no where in the constitution does it state that two people of the same sex have a right to marry
It does state that we have religious freedom
we have the right to vote and
we have the free speech

No rights were taken away as according to the constitution they could not marry the same sex anyway before

another sign says
they do not choose to be gay
well a child molester says he was born like that too
A person having sex with animals says the same

I love my children, wife, dog, family and some friends but I do not feel the need to have sex with them or marry them

has anyone noticed the face of twisted hatred on the woman in the stripes?
