At Savannah State University, where I teach American government, international law and American judicial process, I am constantly waging intellectual warfare against my college students to forsake dependent, slavish ideologies rooted in emotivism, like liberalism, socialism, welfare statism and feminism, and instead to embrace critical thinking in all of their intellectual pursuits.
Recently during a mock presidential debate I had organized where I played Sen. John McCain (as if he were a true conservative), I even slammed my fist on the table and in the spirit of Justice Clarence Thomas' grandfather, who told young Clarence as a child, "The damn party's over!" I reacted to the SSU students openly praising FDR statism and the virtues of socialism or forcibly taking money from one group of people (produces) and giving it to another (non-producers). While the TV camera was rolling, I emphatically told the students at that debate to "Get off the damn plantation!"
The students, administration, faculty and staff were perhaps shocked at my characterization of the welfare state and its inimical effects on the black family, but I thought it had to be said so that we don't loose another generation of black students to failed, genocidal policies of the past.
Dr. Rossiter conveyed those same sentiments but in a much less emotive tone when he wrote: "Like spoiled, angry children, they [liberals] rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

Recently, there was the suggestion that liberalism might be an aberrant state of mind, literally, a form of insanity.
This in turn raises the question, is it a pathology, that is, a neurological defect, or a sociopathy caused by indoctrination; or a combination of the two?
Clearly, liberal indoctrination from a young age can be a persuasive way to incorporate these beliefs in the vast majority of a population, with some number being less enthusiastic, and only a few openly in opposition. David Horowitz comes to mind as someone who while thoroughly programmed, overcame his programming to utterly reject the axioms of that belief system.
So it is harder to associate liberal-leftism with a known pathology, except by comparison between the other common pathologies of liberal-leftists apart from those found in the population as a whole.
For example, liberal-leftists commonly suffer both from severe feelings of inadequacy, yet that is expressed by vigorously asserting superiority. They feel week, ignorant, oppressed, victimized, ugly, poor, etc.; yet insist that they are brilliant, noble, worthy, and far better than everyone else.
In short, they imagine themselves as elitists, and sneer at those not of their kind as inferior. In academia, they are pseudo-intellectuals; in spirituality, of whatever form, they imagine their interpretations as far superior than anyone else. In art, they are both pretentious beyond belief, and consumed by their moral superiority.

And what are they met with? Oprahcized apathy. Not a great defense.

They told him it was OK with them if he and his friends killed each other.
He thought that over for several years before he came out with a change in his thinking.
