I have had this question myself; What is exactly the role of this FORCE in interacting with the common public? Law enforcement is up to the police. Any other “enforcement” or interaction with the citizenry will have Constitutionally problematic issues. A unit with militaristic training with uniforms without constitutional limitations is potentially a Gestapo. IMHO, there is no way this group will NOT ultimately be misused and constitutionally abusive, most likely in a political mannor.
Obviously they won’t be used to guard the border and they won’t be sent off to fight overseas. That leaves the American streets.

The greatest qualm I had about the Patriot Act was the question of what a Leftist Government would do with those powers ....

Not if one gets a constitutional amendment that will pass with flying colors of course. Reality is being bent more and more by the minute. It’s no longer a question of what can be done but what can’t be done and that’s pretty much nothing.
