Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area
Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.
A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.
So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.
The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

I just had the dawgs outside...we have a much stronger “breeze”........yes, it’s just that. But there’s not been one for hours. So...I imagine right there BY the fires, there’d be major updrafts.
And THAT has to be one of the stupider posts on this whole thread......

Our good friends who live in Yorba Linda are out here this weekend and they received a call a house two door down from them burned down. They are not up the hill, this was from blowing embers, said two in their neighborhood were taken out by embers.
Chief was there to glom the Patrol 86 (P86) Old Cheby service bed. Not sure where they were taking it. Some poor FF is going to be sleeping in that truck manning a radio on some dark ridge tonight.manning a radio. This was the old P86, not the newer Patrols we have. Chebys too if I remember right.
Lots of radio traffic tonight, the most I can remember in LA since I moved here in 1980. I asked many of the older FFs and they all said it's the worst in their careers. Not since 1961 Bel Air fire said county super Zev Zeraslavsky.
Fire is not laying down in many areas. Lots of crews rehabing at Hansen Dam and gettin ready for tomorrow. Some of our inmate camp crews went in at Carbon Canyon tonight near (Chino) to try and cut some lines there in the dark. Old boyscout ranch in there and Olinda trailer park. Lots of huge deer, rattlers and cougars live in there in those steep hills. Almost a wilderness in the middle of Los Angeles.
Tough work, even for them hard inmates who train like military with marches with heavy packs straight up mtns. "Morning Walks" they call them.
10-7 for some late supper.
I don't remember the Bel Air fire back then being this spread out.
I know the snakes are part of the food chain and all.......however..........
Well ya gotta let the dogs out to go do their Bizz Ness.
Hey not meant to blame the blaze but we have not horses/livestock yet have had a problem in the last few days with Humungous Horse flies. Lil Beastards..
What is the latest on humidity/rain ect...
We switched over to the Weather Channel...uh Tank on news. zzz All NorthEast news...
Humidity....humidity.....rings a bell........RAIN? RAIN????
:)
It’s DRY and ICKY out there...
Tons of those things up there, I know! One rattler had babies in our neighbors garage when we lived there, the hill behind our house was nick-named rattlesnake hill. I hate snakes.
Oh...I am right there with you...
more homes are being lost right now than ever.
but Oprah is celebrating her home did not burn to the ground.
Now stating that its the greatest loss of structure since 1961, Bel Air. From text ticker on KCAL9.
Chino Hills fire taking a turn for the worse. Per helicopter pilot.
Well as per usual our forcast is Rain Forrest pouring and flooding may the powers that be blow it all yalls way.
Let it RAIN RAIN.
For one reason or another ( I know why) I have had just about every Dionne Warrick song from the 60/70 singing off my tongue and KV thought she was just some late all night psyche snake.
Just in 8,000 miles burnt.
Holy Moley yall 80 dry degrees in LA for the next week.
Wind update per weather channel.
Oh a power line started the 2nd fire and now a 3rd fire all of its own???Crazy...and this does not include the first fire around Oprah and Friends area.
Greatest structure loss in the City of LA.....remember those SD fires lost 3000 or more homes
Carbon Canyon is gettin dangerous for the FF and nearby homes. Lots of fuel to burn up there.
Air is clear here in Redlands, slight breeze. Moon just past being full.
I wasn’t around in 1961 so I can’t comment on the Bel Air fire. This one appears to be the grand mac daddy of fires now. The old timers said Malibu was the last time for a firestorm like this.
