Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area
Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.
A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.
So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.
The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

Yes, that’s about it.
This thing went FAST. I live in Simi and our town had burning last month. This thing had to be intentionally set. It started as a fire on a hillside along the freeway at 1031pm last night. For any of you police/fire junkies, you can read the order of call out, from 1031pm to now here, courtesy of sigalert.com

Everytime we get these firestorms, I say it again, there needs to be a death penalty for arson, period.

Wow- you guys are really getting hit hard. I have friends in SoCa so I’m trying to figure out where this is all taking place.
You’re doing an excellent job with updates.
Prayers from Central FL..
You might be right yet I hope not. The wind gusts sent big embers flying horizontally all night long. Ashes have been reported landing in Thousand Oaks this morning. One anchor said that in a recent fire an entire block of homes nowhere close to the path of the fire went up after the residents left their garage doors opened. Embers flew into the open garages and all the homes were lost.
Thank you for the cool link!
You are right on, I have heard many reports over the years of hot embers igniting garages, even peoples cars, as they were packing for an evac, imagine that, all your stuff is in your car, you are about to evac and the car catches fire, with all your most important stuff...sad...those embers can travel up to a mile. You are right, there are ashes on my balcony, and we are probably 8-9miles from the fire line right now. We are off the 118 at Kuehner, the fire is over at Balboa or Reseda...For reference purposes, the Reagan Library is nowhere near this, its another 7miles, west down the 118.
KABC Channel 7 is live streaming their local coverage.

We have been smelling smoke here all night. We’re South and West of the fire.
bump
Didn’t Osama bin Laden or his murderous assistants just state recently that they were going to set the non-Muslim world, and particularly the U. S., literally on fire - and specifically indicated the possibility of arson in forests and areas throughout?
They had a name for it - and world-wide arson of fields and woods was clearly indicated.
Mayor: Fire is threatening entire Los Angeles power supply.
We may have to resort to rolling blackouts.
Thanks for the map!
Stay safe.
Good question, mtntop3. Cindy, Karl and Lainie, have you heard about this?
