Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area
Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.
A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.
So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.
The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

Thanks for checking in Polly and hope you are safe there. I was hoping your area would not be in the path of this.
Err...? Nice job. Very thorough. Won’t help though, because all CA firefighters are union, very few know how to do their jobs, bur BECAUSE they are union, no volunteer specialists from other states are allowed. Remember the 2002 wildfire season which, BTW, helped Grey Davis to be recalled? Looks like looks like the Governator has morphed into the Progressiveator. (getting really tired, there HAS to be a better appalation).
Haven’t heard that they aren’t ALLOWED to drain anyone’s pool, but rather that they do not have the pumpers to do it. They are working with very limited equipment, given the number of fires in a large area, and have NO WATER due to a pumping station burning.
Fires near/in LA are almost always in the area where there are a lot of houses. During Santa Ana winds, the fire can be driven by winds nearly hurricane strength. They can come up on you so fast, often at night, you don’t even know there’s a fire burning before your street or your yard is involved. Hundreds of homes have been involved this time. It’s not like a burn in a national forest or a wilderness.
You put a thousand people out of their homes in one night, it usually is a pretty big thing.
Heard the pumping station at Yorba Linda burned down. That really had to screw things up good.
I’m back. We have a gentle wafting breeze *cough* coming from the east.
Got a call from Brad...he & his team are out in Riverside...about to start out for home. I said........good luck with that...
They’re estimating a three hour side-street return...
Yes it can be fixed she tossed her laptop though it when Obama sealed the electoral vote last week
I sat there & let the gentle wafting breeze hit my bare feet. ;)
Praying for all in CA right now.
Another classless AH from from Arkansas checking in?
What the hell is wrong with you people? If you guys were having some major disaster, the people from Cal would not only be wishing you the best, but no doubt we'd be sending in help and assistance if we could.
Your comments are pretty damn disgusting.
Whoops...that’s what I meant. Replaced.
One of our dogs sorta kinda ate it.

They must have the home owner’s permission in order to drain their pool. Home owner unavailable? Can’t drain the pool. Homeowner available but unwilling, still can’t drain the pool. This is why water towers are better. They need to go back up. Though even with water towers, other local sources of water within easy reach of the fire make life easier for both the firefighters and the people who live in the neighborhood. It’s really stupid to agree that the gvernment can tear down your house to put in a medical supply manufacturer will benefit the greater good, while ALSO saying that eminent domain should not apply to the water in your in ground swimming pool, but that’s what happens.
I did worse than that...
Yes, that fits.
I had a dog similar to that...but he ate the wooden paneling.
