Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area
Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.
A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.
So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.
The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

Thanks for the info and update bd476 and thank you Lainie for all the updates on the other thread.
You’re welcome Cindy and thank you.
They’re saying these terrible wind gusts won’t let up until around noon tomorrow. It’s about 80 degrees now humidity in single digits now, very poor conditions for fire fighting.
I’m sorry to read this bd476.
Is it still dry with very little rain in that area?
5,000 evacuations so far, air quality is bad now and will be worse tomorrow. Advising people to stay inside next few days.
Showing fully engulfed homes on fire.
Santa Ana winds these past few days made it extremely dry hazardous conditions.
For anyone not in the area who has the Dish Network Superstation Package, KTLA is live on channel 232.
Ok, that’s hard on the fire fighters and residents alike.
One fireman has been airlifted to Northridge Hospital with severe chest pains. Homes burning West of Olive View Hospital. Continuing wind streams of burning embers.
Fire at top of hill near broadcasting tower.
Sycamore and Sombrero: structures are burning.
Ashes reported landing as far west as Thousand Oaks.
Reporters on Channel 13 are right in the middle of all this, still sharp, soot covered with the fastest updates, continuing reports from LAFD. The anchors also caught the LAFD Captain’s glitches.
Then I switched over to local ABC affiliate where reporter Lesley Miller said “I really don’t know what’s going on here... sorry... “ (click)
KTLA 5 was a little better than 7, but 13 KCOP is by far top notch on this story.
Update: 10 homes burned
2 buildings at Olive View Hospital burned
5000 evacuated
On 405 San Diego Freeway many big rigs on side of road, visuala and extreme wind conditions.
5 Freeway the Golden State Freeway very hazardous driving conditions
Reported many new evacuations
One man injured with severe burns hospitalized earlier
Karl, Lainie, ever figure out what’s up with Lesley Miller? She’s pretty but ... well God Bless her she tries really, really, really, really, really hard.

Prayers for all in harm’s way.
LAFD just said that reports are coming in that fire has jumped from East over to West of the 5 Freeway at the 210. Not verified yet but spokesman said fire was headed that way.
KCOP anchor said it looks like Balboa region now burning.
Helo pilot now confirms fire is now West of 5.
I have a friend who lives near there.
Joining you in prayers for those in path of this fire.
My lights have been flickering in last half hour.
