Can someone here explain why they are so reluctant to file for reorganization? Then they can use the courts to unload a lot of union obligations and become more competitive.

The UAW has had the rat party on retainer for generations. It is payback time, and democrat pols will pay.

If bankruptcy is filed, many suppliers will go out of business. Upon reorganization, there will be fewer product lines, fewer workers and pay and benefits will be perhaps half of what they are now. Michigan, Ohio will have depression era unemployment. The two will probably go bankrupt as well.

The democrat party will do all in its power to prevent this scenario.

I really don’t see Chrysler surviving this mess.

It’s sad when I could run their business better than they could, but it would lots of moving to certain states....

They should go into Chapter 11: retain the profitable
sectors and sell the other assets. Also, they need to
get out of the horrific union contracts and offer workers
the same deal foreign car manufacturers, making cars in
this country, offer their workers.

Well as bad as I feel for the people who will be affected, we have to let them fail; I believe that even stronger today after the head of the UAW said the unions will make no concessions. IF they are that stupid we cannot help them.

You know what: I would hate to see that happen, I love my Chevrolet Suburban, but at this point we cannot keep saving the whole world... let them go bankrupt.

“It IS amazing how the Republicans let themselves get blamed for every side of every issue.”

Not really, when you consider that 90% of the journalists writing the articles hate Republicans.

Face it, if any one of us was hated by the press, they’d find something to make us look bad.

“We need an IQ test for Republican candidates. Nobody under 110 or so need apply.”

good one.

“this would only bail out the UAW and keep it a strong, militant ally of Obama. We have a chance to let the UAW crater. “

Interesting and cogent POINT! Actually I read that the hourly wage with benefits is an absurd $73/hr, mainly due to huge increases in benefits for health care in the past decade. It’s sinking GM in the mire.
What is making GM hurtle towards bankruptcy is the fact that they have huge liabilities related to healthcare.
Yes, GM should immediate go BK, haul the unions in and say the contracts are rewritten and cram down on all the gravy the union has, and emerge leaner meaner and without the UAW nchor around their necks.

Daewoo? Like the same GM-Daewoo that makes the Chevy Aveo?

Hmmm...

I thought Daewoo went under. They do not sell under there name. Did they keep the plant to make Chevy cars?

So be it. The market is working as it should, punishing companies who make bad decisions.

Wow, you are right. I hope they corrected the structural issues, because all the Daewoo cars front “cage” crumpled in in head on crashes.

Good. Let them fail and force them to reorganize. Break the damn union(s), pay reasonable wages for assembly work, and grow the business in a rational manner. $31/hr. to do crossword puzzles? I did a Google and found this site - FWIW.

That’s the job security program. I read that many UAW mambers make $72/hr. in combined wages & benefits!!
No wonder a small American car costs $20-25K!!
