Obama wins 1 of Nebraska's electoral votes

OMAHA, Neb. – President-elect Barack Obama has won one of Nebraska's electoral votes, making history in a state that has never split its electoral votes.

After all remaining ballots were counted Friday, Obama emerged with a 3,325-vote lead over Republican John McCain in unofficial results in the 2nd Congressional District. The district covers Douglas County, which includes Omaha, and portions of adjacent Sarpy County.

Nebraska, with five votes, and Maine are the only states that divide their electoral votes by congressional district.

Obama now has 365 electoral votes to McCain's 162.

Missouri, with 11 electoral votes, is still too close to call. Election officials there have until Tuesday to finish counting.

I never expected this kind of electoral landslide.

It’s amazing that you could probably take 1 million or so votes(out of around 120 million cast) and spread them over a few certain states, and McCain could have been the winner, or gotten very close.

I believe this is first time, since the Civil War, that a State split its total Electoral Vote total (not counting faithless Electors).

If Obama wins in Missouri (they’re apparently still “finding” new votes in St Louis, so it is very possible), he will have won every single contested battleground.

Yes, every single one.

It’s amazing what voter fraud can do to an election. Illegals, foreigners, felons and dead people can really make a hell of a difference in the outcome. ACORN really made history with this so-called “election.”

McCain's campaign had to be the worst I've ever seen. I knew he had some flaws, but never imagined him being that dumb of a politician. The republicans need to totally do away with caucuses and go with all states being decided by primaries that are closed to all but registered republicans.

I think it is time to deny Nebraska the right to play football. Splitting the Electoral votes is beyond contemptible.

I like the Nebraska system, and the Big Red.
If Florida had used the same system back in 2000, Gore would have had no beef.

In 2008, Obama would not be getting ALL of Illinois’ or Pennsylvania's Electoral Votes.

“It’s amazing what voter fraud can do to an election.”

Actually, it’s amazing what nearly 3/4 of a billion dollars and a fawning national media can do for an election.

I suspect fraud everywhere....can't prove it....but I saw no ground swell for b.o...there was a groundswell for Sarah Palin....

do we even trust the govt?....look at Minn. and look at Ohio and Missouri?....I have no trust.....

beyond that, people just wanted to press the lever for someone different...there was no thinking, no research, no prayer,no discussion....

Americans my friends....are idiots by and large....sorry to say..

Guess they can't handle the realization that the Huskers will never again be a football power.

What's really wierd is that Obama got fewer votes than Kerry in Ohio (Kerry lost Ohio), and yet won the state.

” The republicans need to totally do away with caucuses and go with all states being decided by primaries that are closed to all but registered republicans. “

Maybe they ought to abandon both caucuses _and_ primaries, and go back to the smoke-filled rooms....
