Jewel: Palin Is A 'Can-Do' Woman
Country and pop singer Jewel Kilcher has leaped to the defense of politician Sarah Palin, days after she lost the American vote as the potential vice-president elect.
Jewel, who grew up in Gov. Palin's state of Alaska, is a staunch supporter of women's rights.
And she's spoken out against attacks made by fellow musicians including Grace Jones that Palin wasn't ready to step into office.
She tells the New York Daily News, "Alaskan women are very can-do women.
We're the pioneer state! The women who settled (in) Alaska had a large role in shaping it. The way I was raised, I never thought I was any different than boys. You can really see that in Sarah Palin."

Don’t need anyone to tell us that — she has proven it many times over — no brag, just fact.
I’m gonna go buy some Jewel CDs now! :)
I can’t believe I just heard a celebrity defend a conservative politician.
Maybe she has grown up since then.
The comments after the article look like they were all written by one person using multiple screen names.
Baruch HaShem
Sarah Palin for President in 2012.
First, we gotta clean house!
Erev Shabbos.
I guess I care what Jewel thinks more than I care what Grace Jones thinks... not that I really care what either of them think.
Read the posts after the article. What an intolerant group of people the left are, they probably have never heard of Jewel, but they know they hate her now because she said something in defense of someone else they don’t really know anything about (Palin), but they know they are suppose to hate her also.
I saw Jewel perform live at the Tonight Show with Leno some years back( I was in the audience).
“Can do” is right, among other positive qualities.
But, let us wring our hands ONCE AGAIN here on FR about her “experience” and “qualifications”.
You see, for whatever reason, and I have my suspicions, Governor Palin, before she can make another VP or Presidential run, must be “ready” to a standard that no other politician has ever been held to before.
Back then she was a youngster lately living out of her car.
Since then she has married a rodeo cowboy and moved out of LA.
I suspect living in the real world is starting to make an impact.
Same here, although we were in the audience at David Letterman's show in NYC. She's got quite a voice...
Yes, putting the “country” in the country girl.
Perhaps Jewel will read the comments and realize there are other Americans who appreciate people like her who judge people on the quality of their character rather than their gender, to borrow a phrase...
Hey little sister I heard you went to Mr. So and So, knock knock knockin on his door
again last night, said you needed it bad-
you know that ain't right
‘Cause so many times you've come to me cry-crying
trying to stop. you said it hurts so bad
But please don't let you
go back for more
My little sister is a Zombie in a body
with no soul in a role she has learned to play
in a world today where nothing else matters
but it matters, we gotta start feeding our souls
Not our addiction or afflictions of pain
to avoid the same questions we must
ask ourselves to get any answers
We gotta start feeding our souls
have been lost to the millions with lots
who feed on addiction selling pills and what's hot
I wish I could save her from all their delusions
all the confusion
of of a nation that starves for salvation
but clothing is the closest to approximation
to God and He only knows that drugs
are all we know of love
Every day we starve while we eat white bread
and beer instead of a hadshake or hug
We spill the pills and sweep them
under the rug
My little sister is a Zombie in a body
with no soul in a role she has learned to play
in a world today where nothing else matters
but it matters, we gotta start feeding our souls
Hey little sister I heard you went to Mr. So and So’s
Knock, knock, knockin’ on his door again last night
Said you needed more
