Something of historic proportions is happening
Atlas Shrugs | A reader comment over at Dollard's place

Posted on 11/14/2008 6:32:48 AM PST by freedom9

"I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learn just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the 700B we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (now violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it wants marriage to remain between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?). We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government, our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and know precisely what I am talking about)–the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And now we have elected a man no one knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe is more imporant.)

Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.

Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning.

And I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they did know was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully them into submission. And then, he was duly elected to office, a full-throttled economic crisis at hand [the Great Depression]. Slowly but surely he seized the controls of government power, department by department, person by person, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The kids joined a Youth Movement in his name, where they were taught what to think. How did he get the people on his side? He did it promising jobs to the jobless, money to the moneyless, and goodies for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe, and across the world.

He did it with a compliant media–did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and . . . change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

(Look it up if you think I am exaggerating.)

Read your history books. Many people objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and made fun of. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though.

Don’t forget that Germany was the most educated, cultured country in Europe. It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And in less than six years–a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency–it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.

Some people scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. Perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe–and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am."

The election has been over for more than a week now and all over NYC you see people wearing Obama buttons and other paraphanalia. They’re selling it on street corners everywhere. There are pictures of him in store windows at Penn Station. Sickening.

A little history lesson and prophesy:

From Exodus, what happened after the crowd told Aaron to take a hike and voted for the golden calf to worship?

"Hey, once you think the unthinkable. Once you think that things that just couldn’t happen here, can happen here it’s actually calming.

Ya, but then it's actually happening - and calm, well. . .

Umm... Is it asking too much to see an actual link to something... somewhere???

The original is here.

It's about Rahm Emanuel describing Obama's new paramilitary National Police Force, apparently designed to guard against that military force of which Obama is slated to become Commander in Chief ...

I GUESS SOME JEWS LEARNED THE LESSONS OF THE HOLOCAUST BETTER THAN OTHERS. Emanuel, apparently, learned them too well.

Pat’s right … This son of a bitch is to be feared. The only way for Obama to counter the military in a coup against the Constitution, is for Obama to have a private army with tentacles deep into every local community. Now we know this was no casual idea. When we first saw the tape of Obama insisting on a National Police for, we thought, “Whatever…cops, something vague about national police, but then we watched again and very, very alarming things jumped. Things which would only not be alarming to a person with a mental capacity significantly below that of the average adult. This National Police Force of Obama’s would have to be as well-funded and powerful, his own words, as the current military is. You know, the one whose primary loyalty was to America, not Obama? And now we find this bombshell. Now we know this was no casual idea floated once during the campaign. Listen to the detail down to which he and Emanuel have thought this through. And listen the reporter having dinner with Rahm sound so incredulous to this planned Police State, and Rahm try to so oily pass it off as if it were a benign occurence, despite it’s obvious Orwellian enormity. Just listen as the reporter feels the inherent evil at his marrow, and how he almost can’t believe what he is hearing, but trying to remain cool and not insult Emanuel by calling him an obvious Nazi.

Remember what happened in Chile when a communist became president?

Imagine a future in which there are sporadic conflicts between groups of armed citizens and members of Obama's National Police Force. A particularly severe flare-up interrupts the President's downtime at Camp David.

POTUS [to Marine orderly]: Get Marine 1 ready! I've got to get back to the White House.

Marine [unable to hide SEG]: Sorry, sir. My orders are, you are to remain here!

""The difference between then and now is that we know what happened with Hitler so we can resist it, and another difference is that Hitler actually was somewhat competent as a leader.

The real difference between then and now is this is a much more concerted effort, more backed, more funded with very much more time in preparation and effort.

I don’t see that many paralells with Post WWI Germany. The analogy just doesn’t hang together.

In post WWI Germany – the people were awed with dismay over a lost war, and also by massive unemployment. What was once mighty is gone, and will only to be restored by a ‘saviour’. A clear appeal is fostered in racialist ‘hope’ and restoration of glory via an inspired orator whose promises outpace his personal deeds and who has written an autobiographical bestseller.

- In present day America the popular perception is that there was no justification whatsoever for even fighting the current war in Iraq, our standing in the eyes of the world is lost. On top of this comes an economic crisis. What was once mighty is gone, and will only to be restored by a ‘saviour’. A clear appeal is fostered in racialist ‘hope’ and restoration of glory via an inspired orator whose promises outpace his personal deeds and who has written autobiographical bestsellers.

"We live in terrible evil times and the sins we have committed in the name of CHOICE is rapidly coming to a sever punishment and testing. The Lord is no longer around the corner, as some say, but, He is just a few steps away from coming. We prayed and fasted for a miracle this election for McPal because deep in our hearts we FEARED the consequences of an OBAMATION and what it would do to our nation and children. Yet the Lord answered with a resounding “NO.” The sins of this nation and the cries of the innocent blood spilled for the sake of vanity and pleasures are coming quickly to judgment. My prayer was simple and to the point....Lord grant us the leader we need, not the leader we DESERVE! He picked the latter. The GOOD NEWS is GOD is still in control and still working on our behalf of those WHO LOVE and turly TRUST HIM no matter what terrible things will befall our country. I had been rebuked by some here telling me there is “NO GOD or that “GOD DOES NOT EXIST”...well I’ve got news for you...I will not be MOVED from the Love of my FATHER, my Jesus and the Holy Spirit, because they hold my life and my children’s future in His hands. Though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear NO evil for thy are with me. He comforts me. You see He will be my source of strength when the crap hits the fan in our beloved nation. I have peace knowing I serve an AWESOME God everything is subject under his authority. Someday when I see him face to face He’ll explain EVERYTHING to me, past, present and future. So cheer up...GOD IS STILL ALIVE AND SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER! He is our PRESIDENT FOREVER in our nation called HEAVEN....HALLELUJAH!! Let the evil ones rejoice and celebrate in the spoils of their victory for now, for their days have been numbered. Peace be with you all and don’t let satan rob you of your joy! BLESSINGS!

Faith!

(Kind of calming, isn't it.)

Exactly!! The Lord drew the line and many went beyond the line drawn in the sand..

" 7 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt.

8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.'

9 "I have seen these people," the LORD said to Moses, "and they are a stiff-necked people. 10 Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation."

WHOA!!

Read Toynbee's “ A Study of History”. In it he describes the stages that a typical civilization goes through from its beginning to its end. Western civilization is in its final stage. Given that info is much different that trying to figure out what is happening and who is making it happen.
I am struck by the deindustrialization of the US. I was just wondering a few days ago where one could find a US company that could make a tank turret.
A legal immigrant from Eastern Europe commented to me that she came to the US because there were so many jobs available in our industries. Now she said that they were all moved offshore. I have wondered about that also.

The rise of the environmental anarchists has been dramatic. At one time they were objects to be amused by. Now it is impossible to do anything without an environmental impact statement. Let wait and see when the first offshore oil well is drilled by an American company. Of course, China and Cuba may drill to their heart's content and we do nothing.

As I have posted in the past, the Republicans want illegal immigration because it provides cheap labor. The Democrats want cheap labor because in provides future voters. There are 11 to 25 million of them roaming around today fundamentally changing the character of this nation. We have just had a notional election, and not one word was said about them! The problem is still there. It did not go away, but US laws are not being enforced. One can ask why.

This nation is being flooded with illegal drugs. Little or nothing is being done to stop their importation. The second or third largest industry in the United States is the illegal drug business. It is the size of GM either larger or slightly smaller. Our entire law enforcement structure has been corrupted (stated my a Supreme Court justice). Bush sits with his hands under his posterior while his Federal attorneys do nothing, or prosecute those individuals bring 75 kilos or less across the border while the big ones walk skate.

The US has to wake up. There are enemies out there waiting to tear the flesh from our bones and to rape our women and sell our children into slavery. Yet we are not permitted to say their names because we may “offend” them.

This is not the actions of descendants of people who settled this nation. It is the reaction of serfs obeying the dictates of the Lord of the manor.

It’s only partially about oil. It’s mostly about large waves of money sloshing around the globe looking for a return on investment, the ability to advance science/technology and what country becomes the next financial capital in the 21st century.

We are not in a financial crisis but a MORAL CRISIS which has caused a so called financial crisis. The love of money is the root of all evil. If one studies history they will learn that all governments fall due to moral degeneracy.

“...I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;”. It also states that I will support the president, but some of his comments and actions indicate some one who is not in favor of the Constitution, so until I see an indication otherwise, he cannot be my President."

Bump that!

This article is right on ... please read it and consider the reality of it.

It is too true the basically average American does not spend much time considering the state of affairs in America or the world ...

It is simply a case of having more to do than they can keep up with doing; and when they want to sit and watch TV or play games on the computer, My Space, or spend hours on the phone ... much ado about nothing; etc.,

It is believed it is time to kick back and take an earned break to do so. No big deal ... a tired now attitude. At different stages of our life we have all been similar to this same inattention to what is happening around us.

We have few watch dogs; and when they start barking ... we yell at them to ‘shut up’. !!!!!It is disillusioning to realize that the so called watch dogs are continuously asking for contributions; and we see little or no result of their organizations efforts. Do they just pocket the money, make a couple of civic speeches and get their picture taken with a Congressional member; and claim they are being effective? It is all about the money. The claim is stated that they are nonprofit. The way to become nonprofit is simply to pay big administrative salaries; presto change o no money left.

Cynical? Yes. With cause. Propaganda is rampant: truth is minuscule. Very disappointing. Reality indeed!

Ephesians 6:12-13 Young's Literal Translation.

” 12 because we have not the wrestling with blood and flesh, but with the principalities, with the authorities, with the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, with the spiritual things of the evil in the heavenly places;

13 because of this take ye up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to resist in the day of the evil, and all things having done — to stand.”

We were ‘born for such a time as this’ this is our time. We have a part to play; and whether we know it or not ... we are playing a part now actively, knowingly, or passively and uncomprehendingly.

Free Republic is great forum. It brings much to the for: it also has much distraction, fluff, trivia, We come here to Free Republic, and/or write blogs, and grouse to our arenas of influence and then what????

That's it????.

"Something big is happening" now and we act as if we were abstract viewers ... hmmm interesting viewing.

Where is the action? Words? Discontent?

God helps them that help themselves. We do not know what to do evidently.

Ok, but why don’t they just say that?

To say they simply cannot/will not tell us, without any explanation, only serves to heighten the anxiety level, at a time when we are all supposed to be “acting naturally” : \

It makes no sense at all.
