America Throws Long (Noonan's schoolgirl crush on Obama, Palin Derangement Syndrome continues)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 11/14/08 | Peggy "Take Me, Obama!" Noonan

Posted on 11/14/2008 12:39:49 AM PST by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

I've been traveling in New York and Texas, and it's all Obamarama all the time. People mention Sarah Palin (there was appreciative laughter the other day in Houston when a speaker said wistfully that the Alaska governor may soon discover the power of silence), and now and then President Bush (not often—people move on with a finality that is brutal), but the topic is Barack Obama. There is continuing national curiosity at and discussion of the mystery of the man—what does he think, what will he do?—coupled with a great sense of expectation, and a high sense of anxiety.

The reasons behind the preoccupation are obvious—new president, new directions—but one new aspect sharpens it. A week and a half after the election, the idea has settled in that America just threw long. People hadn't heard of Mr. Obama two years ago, they know they don't really know him now, and they just gave him the presidency. America threw long, and America is praying for a dazzling reception. People want him to catch the ball.

Noonan is one of the reasons that I won't be renewing my subscription to the WSJ.

I gave mine up when Mr. Murdoch bought it; my guess was that it would quickly run downhill.

I just took a look, and I see that three most prominent stories listed at the WSJ.com website are:

When Alzheimer's Disease Hits at 40

Stimulus, Auto Bailout May Be Delayed

Science of Migrating Rubber Duckies

While I was willing to tolerate the usual silly story or two on the front page, I think this is getting out of hand. When only one out of three stories "above the fold" can be considered news, well, I personally won't pay for such.

Well, I’m not from Texas but I would imagine the area that continually votes in Queen Shirley Jackson Lee - the one searching for the American flag on Mars - probably had a bunch of Obama signs and bumper stickers.

It's debatable whether or not Reaganism is dead--but the fifteen minutes given to this woman should be long over. Enough is enough. She's not insightful or helpful. In fact, she makes Martha Stewart sounds practical.

And...why does anyone care what she thinks? Did she bring in one vote for our team? She's a tool of the other side and she should hop over there and play for them because that's where her loyalty is anyway.

Leaving Peggy’s public self-immolation out of the discussion . .

In the past few days I have heard some intelligent black co-workers saying quietly that they think Barak Obama’s supporters are going to be gravely disappointed, that no man in the world could carry the burden of expectation they have placed on him.

Finally, someone is saying that Barry is not Jesus. There’s a foot in the door. < /s>

I wonder if anyone has taken Noonan aside and told her just how foolish she sounds. We get it Peggy, you hate conservatives and you enjoy the newfound notariaty that anyone claiming to be a Republican gets for bashing Palin and praising our new racist messiah.

Give it a rest already.

Peggy, the liberals don't care about you, and we're rapidly losing interest. A word to the wise.

OTOH, at our house, it's all Sarah all the time. Palin 2012!

Peggy’s finishing-school manner - - she talks like she’s balancing a plate on her head - - always bothered me

LOL! I always thought she sounded like she had a qualude drip. Should have trusted my instincts.

“Peggy? “It’s Over”.”

Agree for sure. Once an avid reader of her column, I have long ago “got past” having any respect for Ms Noonan’s writings. RIP Peggy...

It's sad what some people will do for a paycheck.

I'm guessing that Noonan has some inside sources that told her exactly what the lay of the land was going to be after the election (people like Mary Mapes).

She chose the filthy lucre.

You’d be hard pressed to find a commandment that the left doesn’t flagrantly defy and revel in their defiance.

True Love, it seems, has rendered La Noonan both lazy and dizzy.

For sure, something has rendered her. I have a different theory, which I'd be uncharitable to name directly but it rhymes with regal bugs.

Yes!! Not only should there be testing, but the standards should be high.
I’d add journalists and politicians to your list.

There is continuing national curiosity at and discussion of the mystery of the man—what does he think, what will he do?—coupled with a great sense of expectation, and a high sense of anxiety.

At a core level, this fawning, coddling treatment of Obama smacks of racism. It is a kind of "he's Black, and therefor a delicate flower" treatment. I can't think of any politician who has been given such positive bias in the press.

As he screws up, and I can guarantee he will as he has no qualifications for the job, it will be interesting to see just how far the press will cover for him. I suspect they will look increasingly foolish; as if they don't already look foolish with their saccharin coverage.
