The key to understanding the tragedy that was Jonestown lies in the oratory skills of the Peoples Temple founder, Jim Jones.
"He was very charismatic," Leslie Wagner-Wilson, a Jonestown survivor, says of the Rev. Jim Jones.
With the cadence and fervor of a Baptist preacher, the charm and folksiness of a country storyteller and the zeal and fury of a maniacal dictator, Jones exhorted his followers to a fever pitch, audiotapes recovered from Jonestown reveal.
As he spoke, they applauded, shouted, cheered. One follower who survived the "revolutionary suicide" at Jonestown on November 18, 1978, said that Jones was the most dynamic speaker he had ever heard.
Like all powerful speakers, Jones' greatest asset was his ability to determine what listeners wanted to hear and give it to them in simple language that appealed to them on an almost instinctual level.

MSNBC did a documentary on this last weekend.
Well it’s not for nothing that the term “KoolAid Drinker” comes from Rev. Jim Jones, Peoples Temple-Jonestown

Where do you live? I want to move there - people in my age bracket around here and younger voted for the Next American Idol rather than President.
ok, so we get the libs to believe that the only way to save the planet from global warming is that they off themselves which would reduce their carbon footprint

I have a client who is an actor but specilalizes in oratory.
He says Obama is not a true orator, he continually drops inflection at the end of sentences.
So, could all the liberals and him drink the ‘real’ Kool-Aid and....well, you know? (Sort of leave the world to us I guess?)
Hussein Obama reminded me of Jim Jones long ago.
So could the devil. Socialism is the gospel of envy, jealousy and hate.
Sounds very cult-like, doesn’t it?
The Headline says it all!
Deja Vu All over again!1!!
I remember this...
They drank the grape juice...even babies..
A congressman was murdered...
His body was shown on TV...
The camera man had been killed too and his camera fell onto the ground sideways...
In the screen was the congressman’s body and the side of the small plane..
They kept showing the bodies of the Peoples Temple on TV...
They were stacked o n top of each other all around the building 900+ of them...
Their bodies had swollen up in the hot sun...
Young troops from the base I was station at were sent down to collect the bodies...
They were traumatized by the experience...
They came back crying...
The bodies were so swollen and unyeildy that it was difficult to put them into body bags...
Very. I saw a documentary on TV recently about the entire "Jonestown" story. During the show I was constantly reminded of 'you know who' when people that were around him talked about the experience.
