Alaska Found to Contain Another Kind of Exploitable Energy ( 85.4 Trillion Cu. Ft. Natural Gas )
Miami Herald ^ | Nov. 12, 2008 | ERIKA BOLSTAD

Frozen crystals packed with concentrated natural gas and buried 2,000 feet below the permafrost on Alaska's North Slope could become the next major domestic energy source, according to an assessment released Wednesday by the U.S. Geological Survey. The study finds that in the North Slope, frozen methane-and-water crystals known as hydrates contain as much as 85.4 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas. That's enough to heat 100 million homes for as long as 10 years, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne said.

New research into how to extract those resources has moved the possibility of recovering the usable energy from the realm of "science and speculation" to that of the "actual and useful," Kempthorne said Wednesday.

Globally, "hydrates have more potential for energy than all other fossil fuels combined," he said. "This can be a paradigm shift."

Sorry, inspite of what Pelosi thinks, natural gas is a fossil fuel, and therefore will probably be banned by Democrats.

Now would be a good time for Alaska to secede. You can buy a whole lot of mercenary power with that kind of scratch.

Only 2000 feet down! That is cheap fuel. May be time for me to dust off the geology degree and look for work.

Digging for diamonds wont lower the price of diamonds so, despite the fact that you have diamonds on your property, you shouldnt dig them out. Instead, when diamonds are at an all time high, buy your diamonds from a foreign source. Export as much money as humanly possible so foreign entities can buy up US landmarks like the Chrysler Building (and the mortgage on your house by bailing out the banks).

While you are busy exporting trillions to buy diamonds, work hard to make diamonds obsolete thru new technology. That way, all the potential trillions you have in diamonds of your own eventually becomes worthless as you let them rot in the ground.

This has not been posted in awhile. Thought I would recycle it.

Haven't you heard?

Obama doesn't want us to use any energy source that produces CO2.

He will use a carbon tax to drive any industry that produces a CO2-producing energy source into bankruptcy.

His very words.

This begs the question. What happens if the State of Alaska, led by Gov. Palin, says, "Forget you, it is our state, we are going to develop it, anyway!"

Do they say how to harvest it?

I’m on dialup & don’t like newspaper links, because they have a lot of useless crap that often seizes up the system.
